The money game

The money game(2006-07-18 21:10 posted by B. La Rose)
The recent signing of Sergei Samsonov appeased Canadiens fans for a few days, but now most people are wanting more. The question is though, is there room for any more? Even with the cap being increased to $44 M US, how much room is rea...

Possibilities
(Preview)
has anyone given any thought to maybe having Saks center Kovalev and Samsonov? How strong would THAT line be? Put Ribs between Higgins and Ryder (if he stays). One thing Ribiero can do is pass the puck alot like Koivu. I would not be surprised to see that line tried on a regular basis (I already expect Koi...

Smith out Snow in as Islanders GM
(Preview)
Just when one would think the Islanders front office could not hit a new low, they do anyway. After 40 days as GM Neil Smith walks away from the job based on philosophical differences with the front office. The guy signs Simon,Witt,Potti,Silinger as free agents and then leaves. Certainly does not enh...

The Big M and Le Gros Bill
(Preview)
I caught the tail end of a biography on Frank Mahovalich on Life & Times on CBC just now. I was trying to remember other players who have had great years in both Montreal and Toronto. Dick Duff and Gordie Drillon come to mind, but that's about it. (And yes, I remember Duff, but Drillon wa...

Trivia: Leaf/Habs trade
(Preview)
In the 70s the Leafs and Habs traded a player to each other (1 for 1) in the off season but neither player reported to their new club - both started the season as teammates on a 3rd club.
Who were the players and where did they land as teammates?

Well Barry brought up in another post that he believes the Leafs will make the playoffs, I just wanted other people takes on this...
I for one think they will miss the playoffs for a second straight season. I know they now have Raycroft and Peca as well as some other defenceman but I don't think it will b...

(Preview)
Here is what I see:
Higgins-Koivu-Ryder
Samsonov-Ribs/Plekanac-Kovy
Perez-Kosistyn/Johnson-Begin
Get rid of Bonk, Murray, Downy and bring up young guns to get nhl time.
I am fine with not making the playoffs to get players developed.

Eddie the eagle
(Preview)
According to TSN, Belfour is in Florida being checked over by the Panthers. According to a report, if he's checks out okay, the Panthers will sign him for a year at 1.5 mil.
Should he sign with Florida, does this mean the rumours of Abiescher to Detroit will resurface?

Options for Bob Gainey to free up Cap Space
(Preview)
Listening to Gazette writer Pat Hickey today on the team 990, he brought up a couple of interesting points regarding cap space with the habs. If things do not work out with either Bonk or Ribs this year, he has the option to send either one or both to Hamilton. Bonk I think gets 3 million and Ribs of course c...

So, what did I miss concerning the Habs? They maxed out the cap without getting a top centerman? Please say it ain't so! -- Edited by Key Lime at 10:53, 2006-07-18

Ribeiro ... time for a clean slate
(Preview)
Ribs has taken alot of bashing on this board over the last 18 months. Perhaps deservedly so.
However, as it appears that Ribs is going to centre the # 1 line with Kovy and Sammy, I say its time to give BG and GC the benefit of the doubt and start rooting for Ribs.
Ribs is a talented pl...

Samsonov: what's not to like?

I think we're all happy to get Samsonov, because he always seems to step it up a notch playing us.
But many of you haven't seen the other Samsonov, because you aren't living in Bruinland. The other Samsonov disappears regularly, and while I'm pumped to get another scary scoring threat to go with Ko...

still one missing piece ... Gomez
(Preview)
While I could agree that the replacement of Zednik and Bulis with Samsonov and Johnson makes the habs a better team, BG still hasn't solved the problem at Centre.
The habs need a #1 Centre more than anything. Koivu is not a #1, and moreover is often injured, so he's b...

Training Camp - Probability of Rookies Making the Team

I just wanted everbody's thoughts on rookies making the team.
