Listening to Gazette writer Pat Hickey today on the team 990, he brought up a couple of interesting points regarding cap space with the habs. If things do not work out with either Bonk or Ribs this year, he has the option to send either one or both to Hamilton. Bonk I think gets 3 million and Ribs of course close to 2. Normally their salaries, if they clear wavers, would count against the cap next year.(It does not count against this year's cap if they clear waivers and go to Hamilton). But in this case, they are both on the last year of their contracts so Bob would not end up with another Mogilny thing. Do not be surprised if Gainey uses this wildcard if he needs to.

barry not that it applies to montreal i believe the mogilny case hinges on the fact he was 35 or older when he signed a multi year deal , i believe that is why the devils are on the hook for his cap space as bonk and ribs neither are 35 so i dont think it would apply to them regardless , thats how i recall it anyway .

Thats right, if you are 35 the day you sign your deal your contract in the minors counts. Same for Dave Andreychuk and new Isles GM Garth Snow. Imagine having your GM count against the cap, crazy??
