Ribeiro ... time for a clean slate

Ribs has taken alot of bashing on this board over the last 18 months.  Perhaps deservedly so.

However, as it appears that Ribs is going to centre the # 1 line with Kovy and Sammy, I say its time to give BG and GC the benefit of the doubt and start rooting for Ribs.

Ribs is a talented playmaker ... check his stats in QMJHL and he has averaged 60 points in his last two NHL seasons (check TSN's site and count how few centres have averaged 60 points in the last two seasons .... you'll be surprised at how low the # is!). Also, Ribs is pretty durable, look at how many games he played since becoming a habs regular.

Ribs has also been quiet this summer ... he hasn't spouted off in the media about how he's been "hard done by" the habs front office.  This should tell something about his character. Ribs grew up in Mtl, rooting for the habs, this situation has to be a dream come true for him. So, let's all lighten up and try and send Ribs some positive vibes for the new season.

PREDICTION:  Ribs plays 82 games, racks up 70 points, and Kovy and Sammy both score 35 goals!

They will NEED to score a ton of goals.,.because that line's collective plus/minus is around -23

You're a good spin-doctor, nietche!

First of all, Ribeiro has averaged 58 points the last two years (I checked the stats because you asked us), not 60.

Secondly, he "hasn't spouted off in the media about how he's been "hard done by" the habs front office" because he was given a huge $1.9 million contract that no other GM in the league would have given him!

Thirdly, he is "durable" because he never engages in the rough stuff.

Having said all that, if he works hard in the off-season and comes next year ready to play, I'm willing to give him a chance to prove he can be a valuable part of this team.

Geez Nil d, I was agreeing with EVERYTHING  Neitche was saying and was about to post that i agreed with him, until i read your post, you have pretty damn good points too. I guess you can say that i am glad Ribeiro has been consistant in scoring and not getting injured, but i DO expect him to be more involved and a more complete player if he plans to center our top line!

if ribs comes in and works hard and commits to the team game then he could be good but he has proven in the past that hes not that type of player . we are forgiving people(hab fans)if he lights it up (70-80 points)we will forget the past and go from there.

Excellent fence-sitting skills at such a young age, Johab!   You should consider politics once your burger-flipping days are over.
