Cap means anyone coming in will have to be accompanied by an equal salary dump, we are close to the cap if you remember we still have to pay ryder and perezhogin.

That one I'd agree with.  I'd even try Eric Weinrich for a year to see if his 39-year-old legs have anything left in them.

Cap space is shot ( I am still bewildered as to how people thought we had this bonanza of cap money to go around and yet we have none..this after the only real addition being Samsonov). Anything we get now will need to be via the trade route.

I figure Gainey is playing it smart...Give Ribs another shot and if he sucks...let someone pick him up off waivers...same goes for Bonk...no one wants to give anything up in terms of a trade anyhow...so the best thing to do is give em' a shot.

If it does not work than let them go and free up some cap space mid season for a FA towards the end of the year to replace Ribs.

And I figure we will see Chipchura step in the last 20 games as our 4yh line guy instead of Bonk anyway...

what do you think?

Is Bulis not feeling the Love.  He must have overrated his own talent or teams know what he really is (a fast, scared, neutral ice turnover king and can't put the puck in the net type of player)

cap is not shot we are at 39 mil with ryder to go , we have a little room but jersey is shot ,we are getting close . but if we were to add we would have to subtract equaly. we cant just sign someone . take away yann danis (they have him as a dman)and were at 39,250,000 , if you give ryder 2.25 were at 41,500,000 , 2.5 to spare , lol

Bob will bank the 2.5 as he has already indicated, for trade deadline and playoff insurance..so the cap is shot lol...but we are still in better shape than most. My point is that I was all excited about everyone jumping up and down about all the cap money we have..it was not the case.

Hey barry. You forget that Ribs was a star in junior...Many leading people in hockey were considering him to be a star in the NHL...lead the habs in points as a very young guy. He has potential.

Koivu is a tremendous center on any team.

The key is Ribeiro. If he can stop being such a fancy boy and turn his attention to hockey...he could be a pretty good addition...AND THIS COMING FROM ME!!!

Otherwise...I'll have XL fries and coke with my whopper Ribby...Ya scrawny, pointy shoe wearin' pansy...

Abby has 1.9 mil in salary, if the souray rumor is true (which i have not been able to confirm) thats another 2.432 mil...and im sure that both these guys won't be traded without a packaged deal. We can get a good center through trade. However I wouldn't expect a trade to happen anytime in the next 2 weeks, except for one trade I'm hearing about, however its a long shot. I'd expect Bob to stay put till late August.

Macneil also remember the roster you posted is only 22 men.  22 guys listed + Ryder - Danis. NHL roster size is 23 men.  This final place will come from whatever Rookie makes the team as Gainey has stated one spot is open for rookies.

You can take out Danis money, but you have to add in the rookie who will make the team and is not listed.  I think most of us assume it will be Kostitsyn or Lapierre.  If its Kostitsyn I'm sure he has a bigger NHL salary than Danis.  You are looking at approx 2mill in free space.

Barry as for your question, We all looked at the cap space and forgot that some of it would be eaten up through raises for Huet, Ryder, Ribs (who thought he'd get a raise??), Bouillion, and our other various RFA, UFAs.

Actually, that cap money that I was excited about was used, on Samsonov. Anyone who though that Gainey was gonna sign multiple high profile UFAs needs to share what they are smoking.

If you go back to what Gainey said during the season last year he stated "It is our goal to bring in at least 3 free agents to fill some holes that we have" -La Presse- March 2006

Perhaps it is not moi who was smoking the funny stuff?

Well Barry maybe included in that three number are Bouillion, and Huet our own UFAs who we brought back, or possibly Mike Johnson??

I don't know.

I dont know..I think Gainey ran out of cash sooner than he thought (happens to the best of us) and had a more difficult time siging guys like Arnott than he anticipated for the reasons that have been discussed to death on here.

If he can pull the trigger on a center I am happy with what we have now..if not, I am rooting for Saks and Ribs to have outstanding years...if they do we will make a bit of noise
