Given the returns for Weight as a "rental" player...
(Preview)
...anyone else thinking about what the Habs could attract for their upcoming UFA???
And-o thinks that St.Louis just made up allot of ground in terms of rebuilding with this deal!
Doug Weight was going to demand a bundle to resign...and they basically just turned a player who was likely go...

What to do with Bonk???
(Preview)
Well the Bonk experiment is officially a bust. He has been promoted to 2nd line on occasion along with some PP time and it has lead to absolutely nothing.
In 31 games this year he is 15th in scoring, he has a grand total of 1 goal and 12 assists for 13 points and is an amazing -6. His average ice time is 16:20...

While on the topic of Koivu and Kovalev..............
(Preview)
................. I just did a bit of ciphering, and here are their lifetime points-per-game stats (right up to Saturday's game):
Koivu .813
Kovalev .806
Given their relative size and skill level (not to mention that Kovalev played a few years with a decent player named Mario Lemieux...

Kovalev bashing
(Preview)
Wow, I cant get over all the bashing of Alex Kovalev. He is the first super star we have had on this team in years. I personally can't remember a player this skilled on our team in my life time, unless you count Mats Naslund. There are a lot of people saying he doesnt show up every game, p...

Heard that when he comes back from injury that Blues will send him to farm club for conditioning and also in hopes that he is taken off waivers either going or coming back which of course then he could be had for half price!
Is he worth a look if no one claims him the first time?
He ha...

Just read your latest blog, Mario. You have very succinctly summed up the Habs' year. Very well done!
(By the way, you reminded me of another "Weight" - Guillaume Latendresse: Over weight.

Weight trade must be giving Bob a headache
(Preview)
Weight's trade speaks volumes about Carolina, and, by association, Montreal's chances for the play-offs (as seen by Weight). According to the CBC guys on Saturday, Weight has a no-trade clause, but word was out that he'd move to a Cup contender.
I think that it's a safe bet that Montreal wasn't o...

Anyone notice Zed was a scratch?

I saw him in the pre-game warmup but he was a healthy scratch. It makes sense, just wonder if he will be scratched again in the next game or will someone else get the scratch, maybe Bonk?

For those who think Kovalev should be captain.............
(Preview)
................ I offer two comments:
(1) On the second goal against the Leafs, which replays showed clearly went in off a Leaf defenseman, as soon as the red light came on, he looked at the ref, as much as to say "I scored that one").
(2) Jacques Demers pointed out a recent incident during the seco...
