New line combos ... good for what ails us?
Permalink Closed

#1 line had an off night Saturday, but no reason to mess with it yet

#1 = Higgins, Koivu, Ryder

#2 line seems to have clicked in the 3rd period, and Kovy and Perez had a few good games last year, so

#2  = Sammy, Kovy, Perez

#3 line has been good most games, but with Perez on #2 line, some tinkering needed and since Begin has been struggling on 4th line, let's move him back with Bonk, who he played well with last year

#3 = Begin, Bonk, Johnson

leaving us with

#4 =  Lats, Plec'z, Murray   --> this line should see limited action, but perhaps Plec'z can rebuild his confidence playing with Lats and Murray, and perhaps Lats can bang home a few of Plec'z rebounds.

i like those lines , if we can get production out of the first 2 and the 3rd shutdown line performs , then the 4th can play limited minutes and wont complain .

I like those lines too.
In fact, I wouldn't be that surprised to see them in the next game.

Yup, I mentioned the same line combos in a thread yesterday. My only concern is how young our 4th-line is and wonder if we should bring in a vet with a higher skill level than Murray to work with the kids. Pleks will get his extra ice-time on the PK, so all should work out just fine. I guess Downey could play with them, but then we can't roll 4 lines, as that line would be too weak.
I really hope the Kovalev line works. I REALLY want to like him, but if it doesn't fly with him at center, I see a trade in the future.
Now we just need to sort out our D. Souray and Rivet together just doesn't work.

With the current injuries, I'd like to see Lapierre or Benoit brought up from the Bulldogs.  Lapierre might be able to offer something more than Latendresse (on any line) and maybe Benoit can give one of the blueliners a much needed rest.

I think that putting Pleks on the 4th line with the likes of Begin and Murray/Downey is a mistake and he will just rot away there. You have told him that he did not get the job done on the 2nd line and then expect him to improve playing limited time with a couple of slugs. But at the same time, what do you do with him?

An alternative would be to play Plec'z on the #3 line as a a winger ....

but then Begin would have to continue to centre the 4th line, and he's suffering badly in that capacity

I agree with Pleks on the 3rd line and keeping Begin on the forth. putting pleks on the 4th line makes it useless. Begin stays there and we have an energy line with three good grinders out there. Plekanec by far has been my least favorite player this year.....he in my eyes seems to be the only one who doesnt have a set position/role on the team....

Leaving Begin on the 4th line could spell continued trouble for that line. He's -6 as is it, and Lats has ZERO points in 10 games.

I think pairing Plec'z and Lats might lead to some offensive production.  Moreso than leaving Lats with Begin.

I think Begin will respond very positively to being put back on the wing.
As for Murray, I love the guy...but he ain't producing much of anything right now.

I agree with Begin on the wing, 3rd or 4th line. Let him knock some teeth out. Plekanec is a much better centre, somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd line calibre, and having too many good centres is a problem many on this site have been dreaming of

I think the 4th line would look even better if we call up Kostitsyn.....Pleks a playmaker in the middle, with Lats on the side with his physical play, and Kostitsyn to come up and try again to be the goal scorer and chaser on the line....what does everyone think of this, and we'll use Murray for injuries....

Good idea, but I think we're a little short on grit, and Murray does provide that.

It would appear the 3rd and fourth lines will be as follows for tonights game

3rd- Johnson/Bonk/Latendresse

4th- Begin/Pleks/Murray
