The nearest hockey team to Glasgow- The Paisley Pirates look as if they are going out of business as their local council has closed the rink where they play. They are trying to fulfil away games but with no income things look bleak.A sad situation.
That's awful! I know Scottish hockey is having it rough, but it is a shame to see the Paisley rink go. As good as the Fife Edinburgh rivalry is, it can't carry a nation's hockey. Scotland needs more rinks, not less. After seeing University hockey make it to Scotland with the Edinburgh Eagles, I thought the sport was getting more popular in the country, not less.
Here's hoping this unfortunate situation doesn't repeat itself.
Paisley was also home to a couple of recreational league teams right? The Blackhawks if memory serves?
Any reason why the rink was closed? Was it purely financial?
Council felt ice wasn't up to scratch, facilities not good enough etc, etc.
However,it probably was purely economic in reality. It would be sad to see a team go and obviously has revenue consequences for the other teams with fewer games next year.
