If he keeps it up Kovalev will be moved

After watching 2 games at the Bell Centre so far, I am really falling off the bandwagon very quickly.

There is NO hustle whatsoever in our defensive end, sometimes he is actually stopped with his butt against the blue line wall on the other team's blue line.  It's getting really bad at this point if he remains on the second line.

I know that eventually someone will write back that Kovalev can be the best....Kovalev has the most talent.... Kovalev has the best hands....BUT what good is this if he uses it 1 out of 5 games???  Big deal if he has the POTENTIAL to be the best.  Bottom line is that if he doesn't strive to use his talent, what good does it do for the team?

There is NO way that Kovalev is a Carbo type player.  He doesn't play hard and sets a horrible example towards the other young guys.  At least Latendresse throws his body around and is still in development (eventhough I thought he should be sent down last week.)  If it was up to me, I would call around and get a feel for what he's worth on the market.

I don't think you'll get any argument from anyone here about Kovy's lack of hustle and intensity, Chili. In fact, I'lll go a step farther and say that you may be understating the negative effect his lackadaisical play can have on the team. The two penalties he took last night in the third period were devestating -- and the slashing penalty was out and out idiotic.

Kovalev is only a threat when he's on the move, which he hasn't been so far this season. The more he coasts around like a bit player in Disney on Ice, the less attention he draws and the more time the other team can spend nullifying his linemates.

Everyone knows that Kovy has his own style and that he never seems to play up to his ability until it's playoffs time. He'll never be a hustler like begin is or Carbo was. But I have to agree, showing up one out of every five games shouldn't cut it on a team like this.

I really think that patience is running out with regards to this guy. At this point, he is taking up valuable cap space.

His level of drive is low.  Now, why?

Is he bumming because he is on the second line?  If so, renumber the lines.  I don't think H-K-R would care if they were called the second line.  Let him and his linemates play against top lines and see if they like it.  At this level we shouldn't need to stroke egos, but if this is what it takes, so be it.   Pull the three of them aside one day, say to them, "You are now our top line, impress me."

I dunno, maybe.
