1. Saku's icetime was reduced to 16 minutes last eve (smart move by Carbo...why not do this every game though?). Clearly, the guy is wayyyyy more effective on this budget!
2. Saku recorded 3 shots on goal (a totally respectable number for 16 minutes of primo icetime)! The offense from Saku draws defenders away from Higs and Ryder...simple as that!
3. Saku wasn't forced to take all important face-offs (he managed to win 50% of his though) and/or kill all penalties...which really makes a difference!

And-o still consistently underestimates Saku, but he is right that the more support he gets the better he plays. He's a small guy who plays a physical all-around game, so he's bound to burn out if there aren't people to take the load off. Well, guess what....? Bonk has stepped it up, Plekanec is better than Ribeiro, and the wingers on this team, starting with Higgins and Ryder, are drawing a lot of attention. Our captain IS getting more support at the moment, and it's showing in his great play.
Which doesn't take anything away from the guy who remains our BEST PLAYER, Saku Koivu.
[It also doesn't mean Bob Gainey is off the hook. We still need another top centre. Begin should be on the wing on the 4th line, for one thing.]
