Great to see the Habs start skating and maintaining their cool. Calgary just can't match the speed. They're big and gritty but when Habs turned it on, they started taking penalties.
No, he didn't skate that much, he did get rid of the puck, but it was 1-2 strides, it was too close to tell if it was late hit, right in the middle of clean and late. Bad Defence in the defensive zone by Souray and Rivet, good to see the boys scoring against a good goaltender, Latty should be getting more ice time because everytime he is out there the fans add a little more excitment, which would make the boys play that little harder by the feed of the fans. Huet looking good and shaky....overall, we need the win.....
Check the highlites guys. Donwey still had it. If not, he can be hit directly after passing it.
Absolutely no way, AB. Downey had backhanded the puck towards the corner and had skated a good 7 or 8 feet without the puck before he was hit.
Yes Nil'd. I am not sure how that could be interpreted any other way. Correct me if I am wrong but once you have taken 1-2 strides without the puck...he is no longer "in possession".
As well anymore than two strides to "nail" a guy is considered charging.

Never thought I'd say this but Ryder is flying.
Poor Saks... just not a goal scorer!
Now we're watching the same game! These were all thoughts I had while watching the second period. Ryder has certainly improved his skating. But he should still shoot more and forget about (1) the fancy plays or (2) becoming a passer. He's a scorer, and should shoot every time he gets in the clear.
And poor Saku could/should have had 2 or 3 that period. Hope that doesn't come back to bite us in the arse.

caught on both counts...
I looked at this again and it looks like he shuffled the puck ahead and then a stride then bang. Can't expect Regher to hold up in a split second. Either way, Downey has to keep his head up...this isn't pee wee.
I think Kovalev actually shot the puck through Kipper. Something in the way he was dangling this period made me think he wasn't going to stop until he scored.

Anybody else feel the exact same way that Carbonneau looked at the end? Really happy and relieved they won? I know I did.
Bonk for (insert elected office here). Best game I have ever seen him play. He even saved a goal with a tick or two on the clock. And did you see the way he intentionally shot the puck off the inside of Kipper's right leg on his break-a-way?

Really happy with the way they came out from the second on. They played their game and dictated the speed and play to the most part. Really gutzy effort!

I saw the replay on another channel, from an angle where you could see the puck. Downey was barely past the red line when he was hit; the puck by this time was well over the blue line - some 15 feet in front of him. Not even close.
Anyway, water under the bridge now.............

Funny you should ask that. I gave out a big breath when the game ended, and as I was doing that, they showed Carbo doing the same thing.
And I agree re: Bonk. I don't think his shots could break a sheet of paper, but he was flying tonight.
Great win overall. Good to see them win a game where the goaltending was so-so; five goals will be a confidence booster for the forwards.
Also interesting to note they played Latendresse on the PP a couple of times. They must be listening to us!

This is what I seen also...maybe not the same angle but Downey had just head maned the puck. It wasn't off his stick a long time.
How is he anyways? It looked like his head phone was ringing loud. He may be out a while.
Ab, I have screenshots to prove the fact that Regher hit Downey late and cheap. (Just have to figure out how to post the darned things, they're too big!)
Downey HAD his head up - he was looking STRAIGHT AT Regher in the seconds before he was hit. No way would he have thought that after backhanding a rather easy shot down the ice, with every other red jersey behind him , taking two easy and long strides while being screened by another Flame, not driving toward the net, that a freight train was about to take him out. Regher came out of nowhere straight at Downey with elbows flying.
CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. And, disgusting. Can anyone say "head-hunter"?
I can't believe Regher didn't get at least a game.
