I saw Ribs in a few preseason games and he looked stronger and more motivated in years past. I'm guessing his upped production is mostly due to playing with people who have the tools to make him better...i.e. strong, gritty scorers.
I still think it is a good trade given how well Ninimaa is fitting into the team and also given our horrible lack of depth on D given the injuries to Cote, Bouillon, and now Dandy and Rivs.
As for Pleks he is at best a stop gap and the Habs still need that bona-fida center...I still dream of Kopitar centering Kovy and Samsonov...
All in all tho the Habs are pretty good...and make up for their offensive shortcomings by playing strong D...something Ribs never quite learned how to do...
So, Ribs has a good starting run with Dallas, 5 points in 4 games, Good for him.
Look at Zednick...0 points in 4 games and -4 on plus/minus, and Bulis has 1 point in 5 games, and he's -2. And look at their replacements, Sammy and Johnson, combined for 3 points and 0+/- in 4 games ... So I would say Bob Gainey knows what he was doing with making these personnel changes.

It is wayyyyy too early to pass judgement on who got the best or worst of a trade. Sometimes it takes a full season before the dust settles. At this stage, Johnson and Zednick in my book are a wash. They both bring the same thing to the table. The only problem I have with trading Ribs was the fact that he is a center. Time will tell whether he has cleaned up his act.

All the player changes seem like washes to me so far. But there does seem to be an improvement in chemistry. The shakeup was probably necessary, but it sure wasn't a huge change, I agree.
