While discussing various players' abilities in the shoutout, keep in the mind the following statistics. Since the shoutout was instated last season, current habs have not been terribly successful:
CHRIS HIGGINS 1 for 1 = 100% SERGEI SAMSONOV 2 for 6 = 33% ALEX KOVALEV 2 for 6 = 33% MICHAEL RYDER 1 for 6 = 17% MIKE JOHNSON 0 for 1 = 0% ALEXANDER PEREZHOGIN 0 for 3 = 0% SAKU KOIVU 0 for 1 = 0%
Last season, there were 330 shouout goals on 981 attempts for a 33.63% success rate. That makes Samsonov and Kovalev just average.
The habs were involved in only 5 shoutouts last year, the fewest of any team.

Really good post and welcome aboard! This is also the reason why Ryder should stay seated even though he finally scored. Why not try Higgins next time?
Just saw the shootout between Vancouver and Minny....I think someone should get Minny's coaches over here to learn our players how to score in a shootout.

Welcome to the board!
Keep the stats coming. These just prove that contrary to And-o's notion the Goalie has the advantage in the shoot-out(or almost everybody is rubbish at scoring on them!)
You know AB, if Ryder just shoots, maybe he should be given a regular spot in that shootout. This guy is a real scorer when he just launches it. Maybe he can be talked into going with that.
Does anyone know the preseason stats from last year? There were shootouts every game, and I remember Perezhogin scoring so often that it was a big reason he made it our of camp. I know the preseason shootouts don't mean as much since goalies were getting used to it, but still, it would be interesting to see their records with more data.

Actually, 33% isn't too bad. I'll bet the penalty shot percentage is waaaaaayyy lower than that.

Will Souray ever get his chance. That would be an interesting one. Just blast one from 10 feet away even if it's a waster. Would it shake up the goalie a little for the next shooter? Probably not but it would be exciting regardless
Once again Ryder deeks....boy i was some mad when i seen him do that, and i wonder why Plekanek doesn't get the chance to go.....or Souray, skate up to the hash mark and let er rip....i guess they don't want to see any deaths occur, but it was only the leafs...

After Saturday's loos in the shootout to T.O. Carbo was asked in the press conference if he thought it would be a good idea to put Souray out there and let him rip from 50ft out.
Carbo responded that Souray was the next man up (they went to 7 shooters). And explained that Streit was put out there as the 4th shooter because in practice he won the in-house competition.
