Aebischer to start versus flyers

This is up on the RDS.ca site.

this will be exactly like last year. Guy will get carried away with aebischer playing better than Huet and eventually trading Huet since he does not want to keep a back up with such a high salary. Unless Huet is hurt (groin against Buffalo) , other than that, i dont see any reason why Huet should not get the call.

Someone else mentioned (in another post) that Abby would probably get the start on Wednesday & Huet will start @ home -vs- Ottawa 'cause he's got a good track record against the Sens.

IMHO, I think Huet will fair just fine with the Habs, I'm glad we have 2 goalies we can count on as a possible #1.... some teams barely have 1 goalie that's a possible #1

I just get worried that eventually Huet's nose will get out of joint.  Remember last year when no matter how well he played, Gainey made Julien play Theodore.  And then as the season was winding down, Gainey went with Aebi when the Habs needed wins.  It seems as though the Canadiens' management just don't have the same confidence in him as his teammates or the fans do.

True...

I just think they kept playin' Theo with hopes he'd snap out of it. When he didn't & they made the trade... I think they were playin' Abby with the hopes that he would show up Theo & they would look good to the team & fans. Instead, it royally ticked off the fans (myself included) & made everyone question the guys behind the team. Abby's play for us @ the end of last season was bad.... but not so bad now (but again... it's only been 2 games) ... his style scares me, but at least he got the win.

I think things are pretty good in net.  Two quality keepers working with the best goalie coach any where.  Platooning the two will keep both sharp, fresh and visible to other teams needing an upgrade closer to the trade deadline.  This is THE part of the team I have no worries about.

I don't mind how Abby keeps the puck out as long as he does!Although I think Huet should be in net. Then again I am told if a guy isn't playing he'll be tough to trade SO maybe Abby is heading for the door.

Guy Carbonneau liked David Aebischer's Saturday night performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs so much, he wants to see it for the second game in a row.

The Canadiens' head coach will start the Swiss netminder in goal on Wednesday when the team faces the Philadelphia Flyers.

The game can be seen live on the NHL on TSN at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt and is also available on TSN High Definition.

Aebischer, who signed a one-year, $1.9 million contract with the Canadiens over the summer, stopped 36 shots in a 3-2 shootout win over Toronto on Saturday.

The Canadiens' lines and defence will remain the same as they were in the first two games against Buffalo and Toronto, but forward Aaron Downey will replace Garth Murray on the fourth line with Steve Begin and Guillaume Latendresse.

What about Streit?   Wouldn't he help the PP if he played?

Glad to see Abby getting a shot a playing again, after his great perfomance Saturday, why not?  Nothing against Huet, who also played well in his only game.  Gotta admit I was nervous when I saw that Abby was playing, but being at the game in person and seeing him live I now realize this guy has talent.  I hear everyone say he has different or unorthodox (sp) style, well I didn't see that, what I did see was him  position himself well and cut down the angles and challenge shooters, he may not have the fancy glove saves, but he did his job and won the game.  Before people get upset about my opnion, I still think Huet is our #1 and Abby#1A.  Its nice to have another option and I just hope Huet doesn't get upset.

Nice to see Downey get in the lineup, I know hes not a fan favourite or have the most talent, but he has heart and will give it his all.    I just wish it wasn't at the expense of Murray.  I would rather see some else sit.

M C your beaking my heart are you an ABBY supporter too, IMHO abby is NOT a # 1 goalie.Correct me if i'm wrong...but why would  the avalanche trade a # 1 goalie, making less than THE_ODOUR .If he is a # 1 .....i'm crying here you know

lol.. yer funny.... & STOP THAT CRYIN' .... lol

We'll see how Habby (Abby lol) does... I think it's too early to tell.

Remember my first thread/post ever was... GET RID OF AEBI.... I hated the guy..... but, I know it's a new season, less pressure, maybe bein' in Montreal will affect him greatly. (Montreal is known for their amazin' goalies)

Threeorfour made more money... but it's not 'cause he deserved it (that's for sure) I think both goalies just needed a change of scenery. I haven't come to a conclusion about Abby yet. Huet is still my main guy.... that won't change. (unless he ever gets traded... then it's outta my hands )

Abby gets the nod in Philly
Carbonneau intends to make full use of his goalie tandem in 2006-07
(10/10/2006)

After a strong performance Saturday night in Toronto, David Aebischer will be back between the pipes Wednesday night.

MONTREAL – Blessed with a pair of netminders who are fully capable of shouldering the load, head coach Guy Carbonneau has every intention of maximizing his one-two punch in goal this season, beginning Wednesday night in Philadelphia.

Fresh off a weekend that saw the Canadiens come away with three out of a possible four points on the road against the division rival Sabres and Maple Leafs to open the season, Carbonneau likes what he’s seen so far from his club. The first-year bench boss is also sleeping better at night with the comfort of having not one but two talented goalies at his disposal.

“We’re lucky enough to have two good goalies and we’re going to use them,” said Carbonneau after confirming that David Aebischer will get the start against the Flyers. “We made it clear that there was no predetermined schedule for how this was going to go this year. It’s wide open.

“It’s easy to say that we’ll go with the hot hand, but I also don’t want to go two or three weeks without one of them playing either,” warned Carbonneau. “It’s up to me as coach to properly manage how often they will play.”

Aebischer is getting his second straight start thanks to his solid performance in Toronto on Saturday night, where he kicked aside 36-of-38 shots before surrendering only one shootout goal in a 3-2 win over the Leafs.

“David played extremely well in Toronto and he deserves another start,” said Carbonneau. “We’ll see if things change over the next few weeks and months, but right now we truly have a goalie No.1A and B situation on our hands.”

That suits the padded tandem just fine according to Aebischer.

“I think that’s all either of us wanted from the start,” admitted Aebischer, who is 1-1 lifetime against the Flyers. “If one of us plays well, then we’ll play. I don’t think we’ll have any problem with that. Those decisions will be up to the coaches, all we can really control is how we perform.”

If his first two starts against Philly are any indication, it may be another long night for Aebischer and the Canadiens with each of his two previous encounters with the Flyers having gone into overtime. The Swiss-born netminder made 27 saves in a 4-3 Avalanche win in Philadelphia last January and stopped 26 shots in 2-1 loss to the Flyers in Colorado back on Dec. 27, 2002.

The biggest problem I see with Abby is that he gives up wayyyyyy too many big fat juicy rebounds and with our at times less than mobile defensemen that could end up costing us some close games before the season is over. He did the same thing last year and it was the one thing I noticed the most when we played the Laffs.

Yep, and our defensemen seem to start running around when he's playing. But I have to admit I still haven't seen enough of Aebischer to form a judgement. And he was good in the last game...

I don't have a gripe about his play against the Laffs. He got the job done for us because 2 points is 2 points no matter how pretty or ugly his style is. The rebounds are just something I noticed last year that seem to have carried over to this season. I won't complain about him until he starts getting sunburn on the back of his neck from the red light being on all the time.........
