Sammy and Kovy were asleep on second line...not surprising since they dogged the exibition games. Plecs was the best second line player but needs to work on his faceoffs.
Third line didn't get much ice but Bonk made some lazy give-aways.
Fourth line were solid defensively!
Our best D were Markov and Komi. Niniima gave the puck away countless times.
All in all a solid performance with Sammy and probably Niniima our worse players.
Too bad Carbs couldn't use Begin at the end for the faceoff. That line was still tired even after the time out. Saks was sacked at the end and couldn't get to Afiniganov. Other than that, a really solid game by Saks and Higgins.
Word of advice to Carbs...do not use Ryder or Saks on shoot outs...they're not shoot out specialist. Try Higgins or even Markov next time.
Komi was great also. I wasn't happy with the sarcastic gesture made to Komi from Kovy when he intercepted the OT pass. Komi at least played 65 minutes where as Kovy didn't give it his all.
Not sure we watched the same game. I don't recall Ninima giving the puck away countless times. But I do recall Souray failing to the clear the puck again and again.
I also recall that Bufalo goal #1 was MARKOVS fault totally. He failed to clear the puck, it got stopped at the blue line, and 5 seconds later, pow, 2-1.

The difference was Dandy bailed Niniima out and Markov didn't get away with it. Bonk also coughed the puck away but got away with it.
A good first game. Both teams were sloppy you could realy tell it was first game of the season except for the intensity. Koivu was great and proved (yet again) that he is our Captain. Even Pierre McGuire loved him last night. Wonder what happened to Kovalev? He really seemed invisible. I don't really pick up on the denfense that much but even I could see there were a few big gaps at times. Oh well, game 1 was not a loss like predicted by most, so I'm good, especially since Koivu-Higs-Ryder were on fire!
