Please read this article. The fact that the idiot who wrote the article is comparing love for a team is just plain stupid. You dont think flames or oilers fans dont feel the same way about their team. I love the part when he says that "laffs fans dont need cups". That's right, you don't, you Toronto idiots are still willing to spend $250 a ticket on a crap team. That's why your team is horrible. There is no incentive to get better. But I guess the teacher's pension fund needs to accumulate capital.
"Gillett made it clear that his meetings with Dryden after buying the team helped to set agenda for the franchise when Dryden told Gillett and his son Foster: "You may think of yourselves as the owners of this franchise, but the truth is that you hold it in trust for the fans.""
That's right....going to a game at the Centre Bell is like nothing else...and this is the only the start.
This article demonstrates perfectly that, no matter the subject, the media of today no longer reports unbiased news. Everything I see presented to me as "News" have statements that reflect the opinion of the author/presentor. The statements about Hab fans are pure supposition but presented as fact.
This opinion of mine is not only about; Hockey, Toronto or Politics but everything supposedly "reported."
The opinions reflected in this rant are the authors own and do not reflect the beliefs of all on this board.
Serge, thats right, it is my opinion, but I dont hold myself out to be an impartial journalist reporting fact. I am just some guy with his 2 cents...and considering this is a HABS fan website, I am a HUGE Habs fan, and a native Montrealer living in Toronto, I am allowed to express this opinion in this forum.
One of the ladies I work with is from Ontario; when she was a child her dad was a friend of the guy who made the ice at Maple Leaf Gardens. One day they changed the wood on the boards at MLG, and her dad went down there and picked up all the old material - back then the boards were made of thick planks (1 x 6 or something like that).
To Leaf fans, that wood would have been part of their shrine (like my Montreal Forum seat is to me). This guy took it to the family cottage on a lake and used it to make three wharves! These many years later, the wood has long since rotted away and has been replaced.
Feel free to repeat this story to any Leaf fan you know.
(BTW, our art gallery is having a big "hockey art" exhibit in 2008 - to coincide with the World Hockey Championships coming to Halifax - and I will be lending my Forum seat as an "art piece". Neat eh?)
