All this talk about Pronger leaving Edmonton is getting ridiculus.
The TSN guys seriously need to get on the issues of hockey and not the drama of one player's life. They are dissing Pronger because they are speculating he didn't like the city Edmonton. What a purely STUPID discussion. So what if he didn't like the city. Everyone has a place they don't like.
The bottom line is that Pronger didn't want to stay in Edmonton. Why speculate anymore on his reasons.
Edmonton fans have to get over it.
This is why Habs fans are the best. They don't hate Habs who left the greatest sports organization ever.
Any players who left montreal not on the best of terms who you still liked after their departure?
Petr Svoboda comes to mind for me. I really liked him from day one.
pronger deserves to be dissed because he signed a 5 year deal and then decided he wanted out and did not want to honour it. These guys are like prosititutes, going to the highest bidder. If he was unsure wheteher he (or his crybaby wife) would like Edmonton, sign a ONE YEAR deal and then go from there. Why didn't he you ask? Because he got alot more money by signing for 5 years thats why. The players want it both ways. They want the security and money of a long term contract, yet they want the ability to renegotiate it or ask for a trade if it does not suit them. I have no use for guys like that nor do I like players who demand a contract with a no trade clause. Wouldn't we ALL like a no trade clause in our contract at work?
It comes down to credibility my friends and accountability. If you do not intend on being an honorable man and sticking with your contract,m then dont sign it. Simple as that. Sorry, but in this case, Pronger deserves to be called to the floor. And as far as habs fans disliking players that left, Patrick Roy? Theodore? Claude Lemieux? Anyone read the reaction to Ribiero being traded here? "I am glad the gutless puke is gone". "Good riddance". I can go on and on.

Lafleur is my all time favourite Hab. I don't think that he left the Habs even though he asked to be traded. It's more like the Habs forced him to retire. The style that Lemaire implemented during his tenure as coach stifled Lafleur's talent. He also humiliated Lafleur by having him sit in the penalty box for bench penalties. When Lafleur asked to be traded, Savard told him that they couldn't because he was a legend in Montreal. So Lafleur's only option seemed to be to retire.

My sentiments exactly. LaFleur was always a class act on the ice and off. I have been to a few of the Legends of Hockey charity games that he plays in and he ALWAYS takes the time to stop and sign an autograph if asked. Robinson, Shutt, Beliveau, The Rocket just to name a few were all like that too. Now, Patrick Roy is another story. I am glad to have had the opportunity to see him play in a Habs uniform and I will always applaud his accomplishments but ever since his little "performance" behind the bench when he told Ronald Corey that he would never play another game in Montreal I have thought of him as a kid throwing a temper tantrum. I can understand why he was mad and I would have been mad also if I was left in for the beating that he took from Detroit that night but there were other more classier ways that he could have done what he did.
As for the Pronger situation...TSN can whip that dead horse all they want. It's over and done with and nothing they say or do is gonna change that. I do believe that he should have honored his contract but there is no loyalty in this day and age of the NHL. The highest bidder usually wins the prize and thats a shame. Thats another thing I love about LaFleur also. When the strike happened he called out the players as being greedy and if I remember correctly they weren't happy about that at all. I have always asked myself.....what would a player with the talent of LaFleur, Dryden, Beliveau, Robinson or so many others now retired be worth in todays NHL and I always come up with the same answer.......a hell of alot more than 99.9% of the players active today.
A lot of posters have been saying that Pronger should honour his contract. My sentiment is the same. But consider this from a business perspective. Why would Edmonton want an employee who is unhappy or disgruntled at his place of employment? Lowe was right to get rid of him and find people who wanted to work for him.

I agree with you about pretty much everything Barry, except for one little thing - how can you blame a guy for wanting a no trade clause? It seems to me an employee has every right to negotiate for whatever he can get. Nothing dishonourable about asking for job security. It's not like management won't generally take anything it can get, even to the point of moving to whatever town gives them a free arena, (abandoning fans along the way who paid for the last one).
Another reason to hate Carolina? Meet the good citizens of Connecticut who followed the Whalers. A lot of nasty betrayals and lies by the owners there.

Are you kidding me?! THeo, brisebois, traverse, berizen, czerkoski, just to name a few. You were ALL ( including me and a few ) calling for these guys heads! And to be frank. If pronger just up-ed and left after making it to the stanely cup finals just because...i dont feel like being here...id be DAMN pissed about it to! I am totally in the oilers side on this one. PRonger is allowed to make his own choices yes, but i mean, COME ON!

According to the papers, and this is only a dirty rumour that I cannot confirm or deny, only SPREAD, Pronger left Edmonton because his wife gave him an ultimatum. Either we leave Edmonton, the city where you nailed some dirty little puck head, or I leave you. That is only a rumour. Who knows. That is fine, people have families.
The point is that when you make $7 M a year, you owe people who shelled out thousands of dollars on season tickets an explanantion. To me, that is the problem. The fans are getting jerked. When hockey tickets cost what they do, that just isn't right. The fans, especially the GREAT fans of Edmonton, deserve better.
That having been said WHO CARES...because...GO HABS GO!!!!

When I made that comments about not hating former habs players I was refering to players who left Montreal on their own volition. Theo, Brisebois, Traverse, all left because they were traded or were released. They had no say about staying or going. Players like Lafleur, Robinson, etc asked to traded because they no longer wanted to play for Montreal. And we still worship those guys :)
