As I read comments from the board I have come up with some analysis.  Thats why Hab fans are the greatest in the world.   Which type of fan talks this much about a preseason trade.

I like that we get rid of Ribs who we were not going to sign next year anyway.  It gives room for some of our other prospects to get NHL time and I am fine with that.  Face it we are not going to win the Stanley Cup this year and if we have to take a chance on some youngsters this year - Great!!

Disappointed that we get a european as defensemen back for Ribs - we need a good old Canadian boy on the blueline with some heart and leadership.  I will be disappointed to see Souray go - if he gets traded or doesn't sign.  As bad as he slow on his feet sometimes he provides us with leadership back there.

I don't care to much for Ninama - I can't make sense of this trade.  We spend more money for a underacheiver.  We need to start shaping this team with our prospects.

Anyways Ribs will probably get 50-60 points this year in Dallas and we will all say why didn't we keep him.  The fact is we need to take some risks and let our scouts earn their money and bank on our future.  We gave Ribs a chance - it didn't work well - cut your losses and move on.

GO HABS GO!!

Could not have sad it any better. I strongly feel that this is a "set up deal" for BG to get a real center, rather than the collection of "can play centers" or "has played center" or "want to play centers" we have now.

As for the people who said that Ribs did not have any chemistry with Kovalev and Samsonov so far, does it ever occur to anyone that maybe, just maybe KOVALEV is the problem? Everywhere the guy plays he has whined about his linemates. Now, all of a sudden, Saturday night he decides to actually show up for a hockey game. Unreal

Ribs needed a change of scenery and BG gave it to him. I am predicting he will excel in Dallas but that does not mean he would have in Montreal. I think we basically unloaded one head case for another and took on 600,000 more in salary. This trade is a set up for something bigger.

alot of people like it and alot of people hate it , here is my perspective , on paper we gave up our number 2 center for a depth d-man . going into it further we gave up a 50-60 point man for a depth d man . well we got johnson (54pts) for a 4th rounder . we'll be better for this trade

Sorry, but just don't think any habs fan should be saying that since our best defenseman in terms of leadership, work ethic, skill, and everything year in year out is Andrei Markov. Yeah it's nice to see a homegrown talent do well, but Europeans can contribute too. If Niinimaa is rubbish this year, it's not because he's European, and if Traverse is rubbish, it's not because he's Canadian.

Flower, I'm with you on the idea of giving some young talent a chance. Guys like Plecs and Higgins and hopefully The-Laundress could be just what this team needs to get out of its rut.

I'd love to hear what Koivu thinks of his fellow countryman, Niinima. Has he said anything on the record? If he doesn't, I'm going to assume that he was taught that if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all -- which wouldn't be a good sign.

If the Ninny can step in and help plug up some of the gaping holes in our D, I will be the first to applaud him -- and Gainey.

Either way, I agree with everyone who says that Ribs was going to be gone in a year anyway. (Whether or not he'd have had a great year in a Habs jersey in 2007 is another question that we'll never know the answer to. Players have been known to step it up when they're looking to get out of town, but it's debatable how much Ribs could even have done so -- especially from the press box.)
