Latendresse in any other Jersey
Permalink Closed

I was at last nite's game and while watching the game, I had to think about Latendresse playing as a Senator or any other top team in the league. Would he be a standout? Not really. We Hab fans and it was obvious from the large contingent of Hab fans at the game last nite, are looking for a young super star to fill the shoes of some of our past greats.

Numerous times, thru-out the game, it could be heard loud and clear, the chant "GUY GUY GUY" as if this young man was the next coming of his name sake Lafleur.  What pressure he we have put on him, yet he has not officially played one NHL game. The media is all over him in Montreal and where-ever they the Habs are playing. Not a day goes by that he is not mentionned on RDS or in some newspaper article.

There is going to be tremendous pressure exerted on Gainey and company to keep Latendresse in the BIG LEAGUE. It can be felt already. As someone wrote it another thread, lets just hope that the veterans on this team, protect and guide this young man, and help him keep his head on straight. The media will eat him up if he doesn't meet the expectations that they and the fans have already placed upon him.

Good post!

The plus side is this kid is at home and already playing under pressure but proving that he belongs and wants to be here. Also the fans will expect alot from him and this will continue to motivate him. I may get bashed for saying this but there's a better chance of him playing every game with passion than Kost or Perez. Latendresse wont get away with it because of the extrinsic pressures.

If he can manage the additive stresses, he'll be a solid for years to come.

Technically, Dad Hab,  it's not a namesake - his name is Guillaume (French for William), not Guy.

And I don't mind seing you guys call him "Lats", but for macneil to call Kostitsyn "Tits" was a good one!

yes we know how motivated ribs is to perform infront of the home crowd . i hope he plays with the heart of begin and the skill of kovy. im hoping he lights it up for the sake of the team , not because he's french. niller just think in a couple of years we could have 2 tits in the lineup and a grab(ovski) between them .

Fatherhab, are you then saying you dont want to see latendresse in the habs line up? im sorry but i think he has shown he deserves to be here. And sending him back to the QMJHL would be retarded and he is not eligible for hamilton. He would be wasting away down there. He has shown he belongs. Now the question lies...WHERE?!

I DO NOT want to see this guy wasting away on the 3rd or 4th lines with no offenive talent around him. In my oppinion, this means higgins will be moves to the 3rd line and play a checking game along with Bonk/johnson and begin plek and downey/murray will finish the last line up...

Why not break up up the ineffactive second line and put him along Ribs and Kovy where both he and Kost had success as finishers? Then move Samsonov down to compete with Perez for the 3rd line spot and have the loser push the rest of the wingers from the press box? Anyone see a better place for Lats to fit in?

Latendresse is probably going to start out on the 3rd line, replacing either Johnson or Perezhogin. That's not a line without offensive talent though. Plekanec, Perezhogin and Johnson all have the potential to put up the points.

Far from that Johab- This kid is needs to stay with the Habs.  My point was that everyone sees a bright future for him but will the Media and Fans be patient with the results that he produces over the next year or two. Lets just remember at the mid-point of this season, when Latendresse falters, which I expect will happen, that at least the majority of the members here wanted to see him with the Habs. This guy is young, has alot of good tools that will take him a long way, but from the observations I made of him in person, he does have his weaknesses. Ryder wasn't a teenager when he came into this league. The expectations set for him where not the same. I don't recall anyone chanting his name as the next saviour. Hell , have you heard anyone chanting Crosby's name or Oveckin's.

Tomorrow nite's game in Montreal will be an example of the pressure that the fans and media will place on him. I wish as much as anyone on this board to see him develope into a great 2 way player, a future star with this team, but I also think we need to remain patient with his development.

Agreed! He's a young man with much potential. We just have to hope for the best!

According to Lapresse, Carbonneau has him taking Murray's spot on the 4th line to start the season. I can't imagine that lasting long though. I think it will be like Higgins, Perezhogin, and Plekanec last year, pushing their way up through the depth chart.

That's what we want. Good internal competition to push each other.

Red, you crack me up!  Two "Tits" and a little bit of La Tendresse is not a bad thing.

Aren't we naughty?

I sure hope that Carbo doesn't relegate Lats to 4th line duty.

I'd play him with Ribs and Johnson.  Lats seemed to have some chemistry with Ribs.

Then i'd play Plekanecz with Kovy and Sammi.  That line will fly.

That leaves last years best line - Higgins, Ryder and Koivu - intact.

fourth line can be Bonk-Begin and Murray.

isn't a few rock stars rumoured to have this done as well?  although tits n saks probably aren't the medical terms for those parts of the anatomy...
