Maybe the team needs extra pylons for practice drills. I thought the Habs were way over the Traverse experiment. Is somebody putting something in BG's coffee????
Carbo was on the radio extolling the virtues of Traverse. He said he had him in Dallas and it is a new game now and he will be a better player in Montreal..a good "depth" person he says. I sink that the habs have sunk to new "depths".
But now that my initial disbelief is over I am giving BG the benefit of a doubt. He is way too smart a hockey guy to get caught in that trap long term. He will keep Traverse around for a few weeks as insurance and then put him on waivers again. No harm, no foul. In good news, it appears that Souray's injury is not as bad as first thought and he will be back before long.

You guys are way too hard on Traverse. He has years of valuable experience, is solid defensively, chips in on offense, he's good at headmanning the puck, he's...he's................he's...............OK, I can't keep a straight face.
This is the "dousy" that And-o was looking for?!

...And-o can't help but ask Bob why he didn't wait until next week to dip into the waiver pool, especially since there should be something more tangible than Patrick Traverse once all the cuts are done???
Surely there would have been an experienced defenseman with a two-way contract???
Anything would have been better than that!!! Aki Berg is better than Patrick Traverse!
Ok, I have calmed down since almost jumping (thanks Heet).
I have to think that this is a move to protect our prospects while Souray's out...correct me if I am wrong please. If we bring up a replacement rook he would be paid the full meal deal if he plays ten games. Then, we send him back down when Shelley's healthy - and we risk losing him on waivers.
And yet, if we use Reverse as a warm body on the bench that gets his skates wet from time to time, we reserve the rookie and Reverse can be water boy when Shelley comes back to play. After all, what can we POSSIBLY be paying Traverse???
Linden's getting 200 large and is much more of a player.
I have taken many, many deep breaths and can only determine that Bob is not stupid. I am hoping that it is a logistical depth move and that Reverse is a pawn.
Guys... I confess. Gainey picked up Traverse as a personal favour to me. That's right. I asked him to do it. I wanted to slap him for being so bad last time in here and it was the only way I could get him close enough to the city.
I'm kidding obviously. Traverse is a nice guy and a class act. He's just unfortunately not a hockey player. I would love him to prove us all wrong and show that the new game suits his style (I can see how he would be slightly less bad in the new game than the old, since his lack of upper body strength won't hurt as much), but I don't see it happening.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to be wrong though? Nah... can't see it.

Habgirl, I think this is the idea exactly. Gainey is just making sure he has a body inplace that can be released or waived, and if he is picked up, oh well, and if not, a veteran in Hamilton or Cincinnati. No harm, no foul.
And, I'll always talk you in from the ledge. Lord knows I may need the same talking to later in the year.
