How much would it cost to sign Latendresse to a contract?
Are we looking at Downey type dollars...$475 000.00 for this season?
If it costs way more, maybe we are better off going with someone under contract already like Kotitsyn and Perez. Give Latendresse another year in junior and use the cap space for a trade to add a center or d-man.

Gainey has had all freaking summer to trade for a dman or a center. Where are we? Ribs as our top center, some guy named Benoit as our 6th dman.
Editors note: I have since had to edit this post again. Benoit has since been replaced by Patrick Reverse.

All we have to consider for Lats salary is whether or not it is more than whoever's spot he would take (in this case, most likely Kostitsyn) since if Kost gets cut, his salary disappears. Lats' salary should be similar to Kost's (plus bonus)
And there is no room in the league for a trade right now. We have to wait until injuries or team chemistry force someone's hand like injuries are forcing ours now. A month ago no one would consider giving up Perez, now most people on this board are calling for it. Once another team needs a young winger and has an abundance of D or centres, then a trade will happen. Trouble is most teams are thin on defence, since many D have had difficulty adapting to the new rules, and teams rarely want to give up a quality centre for a prospect.
Also to add as you mentioned Traveling Hab, Gainey may now be forced to make a trade...the only problem with that is our youthful assets like Perez may be devalued and traded for not much at all to fill holes. That's a concern I have because I hate to see kids traded away without seeing their full potential.
Also as Barry stated..it's sad that it may be leading to this scenario. Gainey did have all season and we ended up with Sammy at a position we didn't need at all.

AAAAHHH! I keep muttering "it's not true, can't be".
WHAT WAS MANAGEMENT THINKING????? God, I would be out of a job for a dumb-ass move like this! And not halfway through the fiscal year...TODAY!!!!
Yes Dianne..we would be out of a job for a bonehead move like that..but then again you and I do not have contracts that guarantee us employment until 2010!
