After today it is apparent that the 14th forward will be either Latendresse or Kotsysten. Here is why:
Ferland who was a possibility, along with Corey Locke have gone to Hamilton
Perzhogan would need to clear waivers to go to Hamilton
I am saying that they will keep Lats. Kotsysten has a 2 way contract and can go to Hamilton without clearing waivers. If they send Latendresse down to Junior, they cannot call him up all year. Kots will continue to develop in Hamilton and will be the first injury call up this season. Plus Kotsysten is much like Perazhogan. Lats brings much different elements to the team. Plus, in my view, he has nothing left to prove in Junior and another year there will do nothing to help his development. So I am predicting he stays, Perez stays, and Kotsysten goes to Steel City.

I agree that Latendresse will stay, but I'm not sure I completely agree with your reasoning. While they would not risk losing Perezhogin to waivers (they would rather trade him or put him in the press box) they would certainly not put Latendresse in the press box. He would either have to crack the top two lines or be cut. If the habs do not think he is good enough to be on those lines, and that either Kostitsyn or Perezhogin are, then they will make it instead, with the other languishing in the press box, as it will stunt their development less.
The Habs will lose Lats to the juniors for the rest of the season whether they cut him now or later, so the determining factor is simply, is he good enough right now. I personally think he is. That leaves either Kost to be sent down or Perezhogin to be traded, much like Hossa last year. Unless we can find a missing piece to the puzzle like we did last year with Murray, then a trade won't happen, and since the missing puzzle pieces are a top four defence and a second line centre, we are not likely to find anything right now. Instead we are more likely to hold onto the cap space until midseason or the trade deadline.
Who does Ando think is available in a trade? I can't see anyone except New Jersey trading a veteran at this time of year, and of course we would be looking for D, so who would we get, and how much cap space could we save them?
Why can't the habs keep both these players and give them a regular shot in the lineup. For years now the Canadiens offense has been anaemic. In the new NHL the days of marginal players playing on the third and fourth lines are long gone. If the emphasis is now on offense why not have players on all 4 lines that can be difference makers. Carolina had three strong scoring lines last season, they constantly thought offense and always looked to go on the attack, that strategy brought them a Stanley Cup. Latendresse has played well in the preseason with Bonk, leave him out there on a line with Bonk and Begin. Lats hits plays a big physical game, plays with intensity and does something that many Hab forwards are unwilling to do, he drives to the net. Think of a Garth Murray with appreciably more skill. Why can't Kots play on the third line he is agile and possess a rocket shot, if Perez can't produce plug in Kots. With Murray, Downey is redundant. Lats and Kositsyn give the Habs poor offence a spark, they should excel on a team that is supposedly going to a 2-1-2 forechecking system. Keep Perezhogein, maybe he can find his game and make Downey expendable.

I don't know the entire lineup I'd throw out there, Wright, but I saw Latendresse having a great game with Ribeiro and Kostytsyn, so I'm thinking leave that line alone and put Bonk (yes, Bonk) with the two Russians (Kovalev & Samsonov). Ribeiro needs to carry the puck and so do those two, so that may be overkill and wasted talent. Bonk would add defensive stability to that line; he might be the only backchecker. And that would leave the Koivu/Ryder/Higgins line intact. So we'd have three lines capable of offense.
Too radical? What do you experts think?
You know, I'm doing a head count , and I see available for the fourth line: Begin, Johnson, Perezhogin, Plecanec, Murray, and Downey. Did I miss anyone? Six guys for three spots. Holy cow, even if either Kostytsyn or Latendresse get sent down, something's gotta give! I'd worry if my name were Aaron Downey right now.

Excuse my ignorance but I thought a player like Perez could clear waivers during pre. season?
Also I thought Habs could use Latendresse for up to ten games throughout the season. Why can't they call on him later for those games?

Once you have played a certain number of games in the NHL, you need to clear waivers to be sent down. I can't remember what that minimum number is, but it's not very many. Pre-season games don't count. Perez has played much more than the minimum.
As for Lats, he is a Junior player. That means he was drafted as a junior player and still has one year of junior eligibility left. As per a deal that the CHL signed with the NHL, any junior players cut from the NHL must be sent down to their respective CHL teams, and once sent down, may not play in the NHL until the respective season is over. So if Lats is cut, we only would be able to get him back right before the playoffs. Possibly later if his team does well. That rule is there to avoid stunting junior players developent (as well as that of their whole team, since his linemates would suffer, etc)
And Nietche, I don't like the idea of Bonk or Plekanec with Kovy, and Sams for two reasons. Firstly, they all like to carry the puck, giving us the same problem as a Ribs, Kovy and Sams line. Secondly, That would mean sitting Garth Murray. That guy is a future Begin, and guys like that are not a dime a dozen. Energy lines wear other teams down, and even though they don't score so much, they can't be discountes

As for Latendresse, it means we could play him now for 9 games than sending him back to junior wouldn't be that big of problem because we could call him back up when their season ends and before NHL playoffs start. Either was, it's all good.
A few points, in addition to the tone on top of my head, if you will allow me:
The maximmum NHL roster is 21 players. That is all you are allowed to carry. Most teams keep 7 dmen. That allows 14 forward spots. You cannot keep Kotsyssten, Latendresse and Perezhogan (along with the so called "guaranteed spots") without moving someone somewhere. Simple as that.
I do not agree with keeping Lats for 9 games and THEN sending him back to Junior. That will only further hurt his confidence. To me, there is nothing the guy can show in 9 regular season games that he has not shown in the past 2 training camps. He came to camp this year in excellant shape and ready to take someone's job.
We have some depth and youth. The problem is, it is all in wingers. Lets face it. Souray and the Cube go down. Our options are Cote and some guy named Benoit. Not good. Not good. Same at center. All this talk about maybe moving Higgins to center (when he is obviously a much more effective winger) or re-converting Johnson once again points to our horrible lack of anything resembling depth at that position. As I said, hopefully BG can trade some of the surplus wingers for C's and D's.

Worse yet, what if Carb keeps 8 d-men with Sourray going down, in order to hedge his bets to have a decent defence corps?
