MONTREAL – The fresh Maritime air proved to be just what the Canadiens needed Monday night as Guy Carbonneau’s crew posted their first preseason win, with a 7-3 thumping of the Ottawa Senators in Truro, Nova Scotia. Back at the Bell Centre tonight, the Canadiens will be playing for the fourth time in five days as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning head into tonight’s matchup also fresh off a win, a 7-4 final over the Dallas Stars.

Tight at the top: Thanks to the Canadiens’ offensive outburst on Monday, the preseason scoring lead is in a three-way tie, as Christopher Higgins, Michael Ryder and Guillaume Latendresse have each notched four points thus far. Latendresse, who remains one of the front-runners for a spot on the opening night roster, scored twice against the Senateurs to take over the goal-scoring and shots on goal leads, with three and 13, respectively.

Going the distance: Just as David Aebischer did on Monday night, Cristobal Huet will play a full 60 minutes for the first time this preseason. In his first two appearances, Huet has stopped 28 of 35 shots he’s faced.

Heather Engel is a writer for canadiens.com

Cristobal Huet will spend the full game guarding the Canadiens' net.

Lightening score a 3rd period P.P. goal then Captain K comes back with a goal to tie it.  Habs outplaying T.B. but still taking a lot of penalties.

Perezogin chosen 3rd star, Koivu gets 2nd star and the first star, Kostitsyn.  So is Perezogin a step closer to making it?

Latendresse got tossed for a huge hot on Dimaio. I say good! THAT is why we need to keep this guy. He plays with passion, hits everything that moves, goes to the net with authority and can score. What more do you want from the guy? Maybe some of that passion will rub off on the rest of these guys. Certainly last night his hit ignited the habs.

Well for one , did you see Kovalev pat Latendresse on the back as he left the ice. Obviously Kovalev appreciated his hit and Komi stepped up to defend Latendresse after 3 Bolt players were after Latendresse.

Exactly father..when you get a guy like Kovalev recognizing the kids effort that is bound to rub off.

After reading the box scores of the game, I was extremely pi$$ed that it wasn't televised on my satelite.  Latendresse mixing it up, Komisarek obviously throwing his weight around, O'Byrne scrapping and it would seem there was a certain nastyness (is that a word?) being shown by all.  Sounds to me like it would have been a great game to watch.
