Why not split up Samy and Kovy because they both love carrying the puck. They're not the best without it as far as getting open or defensive positioning. Also we don't have a dominating number one center.

Why have two of the same on one line. It seems like a waste of talent if they don't share. It shouldn't be about what's best to keep Kovy happy but what's best for the whole team.

I'd like to see Carb mix up the lines for balance.

 Something like this... Perez-Begin-Johnson/ Higgins-Saks-Ryder/ Bonk-Ribs-Kovy/ Samy-Plek-Downey or Murray.

This way we have speed, scoring, defensive awareness and grittiness on every line. It would take stress and attention off the thin center position. Play like the Sabres. Attack with every line. If one line doesn't bring it on a given night..no problem, give the other lines more ice.

It's hard for the opposition to defend when it's not obvious who to put your defensive forwards against.

What do you think guys? More importantly is Carbs even reading this?

Not a huge fan of that, but i'd like to see:

Samsonov-Koivu-Ryder

Higgins-Ribs_Kovy

Perez_Bonk_Pleks

Johnson_Begin-Murray

It will not happen and let me tell you why. One of the main reasons BG went out and got Samsonov was to try to light a fire under Monsieur Kovalev. He felt that by putting a comrade on his wing with speed and skill, that it may cause #27 to actually show up more than once every 5 games. So no way will you see that happen. Samsonov is glued to that line.

I'd like to see those lines, but as Barry said it is very unlikely.

I guess that's my point. Why set up a line if they don't have proper characteristics to give them balance. Kovy and Samy are too much the same player and it means placing eggs in one basket. They shouldn't be placating Kovy if it isn't the best thing for the team. Not to mention the 3.5 mil it takes to do it. Personally if this line doesn't work ( Ribs can't take all the blame) and it's the result of Kovy still being consistantly lazy than I would seriously consider breaking up that line for a four line balance attack. If Kovy slacks off even more or whines about it than TRADE HIS ASS!

Thanks for high jacking my post. The topic was Kovy being a similer player to Samy.

It is pretty rare nowadays that the lines that start the season remain the same throughout the year.  THe First Line last year was Koivu, Kovalev, Zednick at the start of the year.  At the end we had Koivu, Ryder, Higgins.  That's the line that starts this year from what we've been led to believe so far, but eventually it will change.

Coaches don't have a choice but to switch things around these days.  With all the injuries, the lentgh of the season, expectations from fans, media, and management and/or shareholders, if things are not working out, changes come very quickly.

Scotty Bowman continually changed his lines when he coached.  I remember Lafleur playing with Shutt almost as often as he played with Gainey.  Samething with Lemaire and P. Mahovlich.
