Anaheim Ducks defenceman Chris Pronger is tired of the rumours that surround his trade from Edmonton.
Pronger, speaking to the Edmonton Journal, in a story published on Tuesday said that he understood that some Oilers fans would be upset and jeer him, but was weary of all the speculation about his private life.
"I knew I'd be Public Enemy No. 1 ... but I'm pissed off by all the rumours and innuendo surrounding my leaving," Pronger told the Edmonton Journal.
"I've heard all the nasty stuff, about all my girlfriends...that I've got more kids than I started with. I must have six kids out there.
"It started off with I slept with so-and-so, and I'm having kids, then it moved to my wife sleeping with some of my teammates. I was supposed to be having a kid with a reporter, then she said, 'I don't know what they're talking about.' Then it went from story to story."
Pronger denied the rumours and said that he liked Edmonton and the team, but it was a mutual family decision to leave.
"The fans have every right to feel how they feel," Pronger told the Journal. "Some understand, some don't care. Others, I'm sure, want to tell me to screw off."
The Ducks' first game in Edmonton is Nov. 28.
"Fans are fickle...it's the nature of the beast," Pronger said to the paper. "You're an idol when you're on their team. They love to hate you, hate to love you. Now, they'll be back hating me. They always did when I was on other teams."
The 31-year old and his wife plan to live in California year-round with their two sons.
If Pronger would of just came out and explained his decision a little, maybe there wouldn't be so much speculation. Oilers were great to him and it seemed a good fit...would it of killed him to be honest and say..."my wife wears the pants and I just try to remove them but she makes the decisions"....end of story!

Does it really matter what his reason is for leaving Edmonton? He has a right to his privacy if doesn't want to disclose his reason for leaving. In the end he didn't want to be in Edmonton. Why can't people just accept that fact and move on? It's only hockey.

Pronger is a spoiled brat. He signed for 5 YEARS!!!!! Plasy one season of a 5 year contract and demands a trade. Sorry. But I am tired of all these spoiled athletes. What happend to a contract being a contract?!?? They are not worth the paper they are written on anymore.
As far as the private life..sorry. That goes with making 7 million a year. If you do not like people inquiring about your life then go work a real, job for 30 grand a year. You can have all the privacy you want then

Amen, Barry amen.............could not have said it better.
Im sure if he was single and had no children he would take the Oil to another cup, but thats not the case I originally heard his wife wanted out of Edm 'cause of the weather factor...Edm is not one of the warmest places on earth to live...no disrespect to the city...

I am sure she did not mind spending the 6 million he made playing in that cold city. Get a freaking life and a dose of reality folks. I would go work in freaking Siberia in a speedo for 6 mill a year!

Pronger can wipe his tears with his millions. I don't care about him. He doesn't play here and never will, unless he's a rental at the end of his contract. Then maybe I'll care. Whatever, it's his life, he can do whatever he wants with it. There is no loyalty in the NHL anymore. Not on the part of the players and not on the part of the owners. If a player has a better than his average year, he wants more money and will go wherever to get it. Even if it means going to a non-traditional market where the team is a bottom feeder. As long as the money is there. Then if the player has a substandard season, the owner trades him as fast as he can to whoever is willing to take the player. In the old days, a guy like Brian Leetch would have retired a Ranger and never worned another team's jersey.
