SASKATCHEWAN (Radio-Canada) - Doug Gilmour is back with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The beloved former captain has accepted a job as a mentor to the NHL team's young players.

"It's an opportunity to bring Doug back to the organization on this side of the business and allows us to use his experience and passion," said Leafs general manager John Ferguson Jr.

"His presence in the organization means so much."

Gilmour, 42, will work with the Leafs' players and prospects offering professional development advice.

He'll also report to the team's management about the players' development.

Gilmour spent 20 years in the NHL before retiring in 2003.

Renowned for his feisty, hard-nosed style of play and playmaking imagination, Gilmour amassed 131 goals and 452 points, and earned the nickname The Killer during his time in Toronto.
