You see, THAT statement right there is indicative of all that is wrong with Mr. Ribiero. Instead of standing up and facing the fact that he sucked, he prefers to, a la Jose Theodore, point the fingers at others. How do you think "some of the other players" feel with comments like these? Oh ya..I was bad...but not near as bad as some of the other guys on my team. That is what I love Mikey..accountability. Then again, it echoes alot of the comments made by board members here last season regarding Koivu's lackluster play. "Well he is still better than alot of the players on the team".

If this team is to improve, the players have to make themselves accountable and the fans need to settle for nothing less than that. Stop worrying about the performances of your teamates and start worrying about your own.

And-o will give Riblet some credit...he seems to realize that it is time to either fish or cutbait (that analogy is for you Red)!!!

...on the other hand, And-o feels confident that he could pot +20 goals skating nightly with the likes of Sami and Kovy!!!

Anyway...imagine...just imagine if Riblet blew us all away and bagged +40 goals and +60 assists?!?!?!?! Cripes...we would all be eating crow...and LOVING it (...and then imagine if we all won 'lotto 6/49'...and then, onetime...at band camp)!!!

Crrrrripes And-O..a fire hydrant should be able to pot 20 goals skating between Kovalev and Samsonov. If Riblet the gangster does NOT get 20 goals shuffling up and down the ice between them he may as well join the Laval gentlemans league.

thanks and-o , as for riblet , this article goes along with a few post i read and articles i read from another board , as bad as he was last year ,and he wont admit it , he is trying to improve for this season, ill give him this last chance ,but will not hesitate to drop on him at the first sign of "me"ism he displays this year , as others have stated if he cant put up points with those 2 wingers then he's usless and done as a player in montreal.

If every player in the NHL could improve their speed this easily in one off season, Dave Andreychuck, Jason Allison and Brett Hull would all be flying around out there.

He's working at improving which is all fine & dandy, bottomline is when was that last time you saw a poor skater like a Ribeiro drastically improve one year over the next? Exactly.

And who did he have a good year compared to? Not Koivu. Not Kovalev. Not Ryder. Not Higgins. Is he comparing himself to Aaron Downey or Garth Murray, in that case he had an amazing year.

Dump this stiff. He's a joke.

Before criticizing Ribeiro's character, perhaps the Board should obtain a proper translation of what Ribs actually said in the interview. What he ACTUALLY said was, "hey, there were a few players on the team with about as many points as me ... and the media reported them as having a good season". Ribs then goes on to say that he understands that the team and the fans had higher expectations for him, and he is going to try hard this year to live up to those expectations. He says he's tired of one year deals, and wants to prove himself and obtain a multi year contract"

Sadly, someone posted earlier a mistranslation of Mike's comments, and many members decided to join in on the Ribs bashing.

Enough I say ... cut the guy some slack. He's a hab for 2006/07, so lets get behind him a root for him.

I would also like to point out a part of the article:

Basically says that right before theo broke his ankle, they were about to trade him to the Hawks. Which is something I had mentioned previously. I tried to find the post, but i couldn't find it, what I did find was my 'possible trades thread' which made me smile because alot of the people I mentioned that were on other teams, are now players whom play for different teams than when posted. It was also before Huet came back from injury, and played great. I had mixed him in on some of those trades....man would they have been lopsided.

Anyways, yeah. Thats it lol.

yes nietch , they are different words that mean the same thing , the thing with ribs is if he isnt getting points hes useless. saks had more points while being out for some games , and you never have to say about saks , if hed only try harder , kovy had more points while missing games , ryder had similar stats as ribs and played all year injured . so for him to say i had as many points as others on the team and they had a good year so i must have had a good year is totally false . he had a bad year points wise and thats all he brings to the team .

Well I'll root for him when he proves himself.... something he did not do last year. & he'll get the longer contracts when he deserves them.

& even if he was quoted wrong... the jest was still the same. Don't compare yourself to others on the team.... even if the media was "nicer" to the others.... accept what is being said & work to improve...

Don't try to reason in your interview why YOU (meaning Ribs) feel you have had a "good" season (or sulk because others have been praised) when you were expected to produce better on the ice.

It still seems like he's passing the buck... & that's sad.

Perhaps I have translated it wrong, but I don't think so. You claim that what he actually said is different. Let me point out an almost word for word translation of the area in the article that you are addressing.

Ribeiro is concious that he did not have his best season last year, but he finds that the critics have been at times very severe in his regard. << There are some players on this team that did not obtain many more points than I did and they say that they had good seasons. But I know that the expectations in my regard were very high and my pride was hurt. It is an important season for me. I sign one year contracts year after year and my objective is to have a a big season to force the direction of the team to offer me a long term contract>>

1) He clearly states that "there are some players on the team that did not obtain many more points than me but they (DOES NOT MENTION THE MEDIA) say they had good seasons. vs. -you say:there were a few players on the team with about as many points as me ... and the media reported them as having a good season

2) No where does he say in the article that he is going to try and live up to those expectations

3) Where does it say he wants to prove himself. He says he wants to have a good season to force team (direction)management to offer him a long term contract.

There is nothing sad about my interpretaion of this article- it was a short snipit of what I believe he says in the article-- plain and simple

Di you all hear that they were a day away from trading Theo, Ribs and Dags (the 3 amigettes) for Nikolai Khabibulin (no time to very the spelling) and Aucoin from Chicago. It was a done deal but Aucoin went down with an injury the night before the Habs were to announce the trade.

Hockey and everything else is all about timing...imagine if the trade would of actually happened? Would we even of seen Huet play?

RIBEIRO NEARLY A BLACKHAWK LAST SEASON?

LA PRESSE: Matthias Brunet reports Mike Ribeiro was nearly part of a major trade last winter involving the Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks. The deal supposedly would've seen Ribeiro, Jose Theodore and Pierre Dagenais shipped to Chicago in exchange for Nikolai Khabibulin and Adrian Aucoin, but was nullified when Theodore broke his ankle.

Spector's Note: Seems far-fetched to me, but it's certain that Ribeiro's name will continue to figure prominently in Canadiens trade rumours this season if he doesn't improve his performance.

There are still some folks out there who insist on mis-translating and/or misinterpreting what it was reported that Mike Ribeiro said.

For the the record ... Mike's comments were about REPORTERS, and about REPORTERS comments about his teammates and himself. He certainly did not say that "other players had a worse year than I did". He goes on to say that perhaps the criticism of him was because there were higher expectation for him. He also admits that he wants to do better and is working hard in the offseason to raise his game.

Enough of these poor attempts to impune Mike's character through poor translation. Critique his on ice performance all you want, but stop attributing statements to him that are clearly FALSE.

You are right Nietsche..Ribero does not need any help assasinating his character..he does a good enough job all by himself
