This is a response to your post earlier about the off season. I made the seperate response just to make sure you got it. I wanted to post that same stuff in the worse way. I thought if I did that I would have been raked over the coals.I do not feel very good about what BG did in the off season, I know its hard to get players to come here. I know we got a couple of additions to the line up (samsanov) I would have wrather had savard or Chara but Boston beat us to it. I would have paid anything to put Chara on the blue line. I just do not feel so great about things. To me its like other teams have improved while for us it was like the status quo. Your post is right on, and for me I can say I share your opinion 100 percent
Thats just the opinion of one person from south of the border
...other teams have improved while for us it was like the status quo.
And-o thinks DaveyB pretty much summed it up above!
...although And-o will go on record here and now as stating that these Habs are a titch better than last year...only because of the growth and development of the youth (and the depth in goal) though!
Careful And-o that could be read as a positive post! What next..."And-o sees a big year from the little captan with a K"
I firmly believe the coming season is not predictable by anyone this early. Gainey tried for help, but he also wants to see what he/we have already. Let's see how camp goes at least before we guess the number of wins or points for this season. ( I say we come close to 100 pts).
david b , i dont share your opinion that everyone else improven while we stood pat so to say . gone from last years roster is sunny , no loss, zeds , didnt play well last year and wasny happy here, bulis, had a carear year last year but wasnt happy with the role bob wanted him to play . so we put sammy in for zeds , should play well with kovy ,ribero is the question mark on that line . johnson replaces bulis , just as good defensivly , better offensively, and happy as the proverbial pig in shti to be here. theo was terible last year , huet or abby will be able to be solid for us so we upgraded there. everyone else is the same , but we wen't that bad last year so why go for wholesale changes like boston did if we only needed tinkering . i can see good seasons out of bonk.sourey, markov and rivet as they are all ufa's next year and dont want their stock to drop so they'll be motivated . as for the other teams , i think boston was the only team in our division that improved , toronto added a offensive d-man (kubina) and a player who had trouble in the new nhl (gill), a goalie who was worse than theo and belfore last year . ottawa lost chara , havlat, smolinski, and hasek, they picked up a few players but they are at best slightly worse than last year . buffalo lost dumont, grier, pyatt, mckee, good players for them and didnt replace them ,so the are worse than last year . so in closing i say we improved as much as toronto , and gained a little on buffalo and ottawa so it should be a good race this year .
alright, i dont think that was the question i meant to ask. What ARE your expectations of Koivu. What would you LIKE him to see and what do you think his maximum potential is/could be. I want to know your honest opinion of Koivu. IF he were to put forward a solid 70+ game season, would you stop bashing, or wouold you consider it a fluke?

And-o expects Saku to provide the Habs with $4.75 million dollars worth of top notch centreman...that means 75 games played...+30 goals (at least 10-15 even strength)...+50 assists...plus all the usual 'intangibles' like a decent faceoff percentage, PK support (once in a while)...very few 'lazy' penalties...basically, +20 minutes of solid icetime each game played.
And-o expects no more...or no less...from Saku!
...would And-o stop 'bashing' Saku then??? You bet!!! Will/can it happen??? HASN'T YET!!!
My expectations for the Captain are that he play a full season without being out for an extended period of time because of injuries. I know injuries are inevitable, but please come one lets get it together and show why you are the captain. Lead this team, I know you can and I think you will. Lets go get em Saku You have come back from a very serious illness and now a serious eye injury. I think I can speak for many members on this board whey I say God Bless you Saks you are a better man than I

I have total respect for Saku Koivu. He is the poster boy for perseverence. Having said that, I will not cut him any more slack than I would anyone else just because of his bad luck. I said at the time that there is no way that Gainey should have given him a 3 year deal with a no trade clause. I stand by that. THere is NO PLAYER in the league that deserves a no trade clause. How I would love to have my boss walk in my office today and say "ok Barry, your job is safe here for 3 years". The bottom line is that given the precarious situation we have up the middle, we need Saks to be around for 70 plus games. I strongly feel that this year with Higgins and Ryder with him again that line will be cooking. I really do.

I'm in on that too. I really like Saks and have endless respect for him, but he has got to put 70+ games together and get at least 20 goals and around 70pts along with his usual intangibles for him to be earning that contract. I have faith he can do it!
