After giving Dumont some serious consideration…

And-o hopes that Gainey can totally exclude the money factor from his thoughts (surrounding the possible acquisition of J.P. Dumont and any/all other available players) and focus instead on objectively answering the following simple question…does this acquisition make the team better?

…if…IF…the answer is yes, And-o says ‘to heck with the cap – MAKE IT WORK’, especially since the addition of J.P. might simply make another (more sought after) asset expendable.

…if no, move-on!

And-o’s point in this though is that Gainey shouldn’t feel enslaved by the cap!!!  It might restrict movements…but it is just poor management to let it prevent you from improving the team!!!

i agree and-o but not only is there no money for him there is also nowhere for him to lineup . the top 2 lines are set , we'll have 2 youngsters on the 3rd line with johnson and that leaves begin , murry and bonk , the only people i want him to replace are ribs or bonk and he doesnt play center.

I would like to see a "home town" boy coming here...

But...

1. He is already too much like what we already have which is a potential 20-30 goal guy on the wing.

2. Still doesn't address the need of a center.

3. Would he be willing to play on a 3rd line if we just go out and get him and just be content for playing on the habs and make his mark if one of the top 4 wingers gets injured?

The only way I see JP or Gagne or another winger type getting here is if we package Ribs and Ryder for a better centerman (who will cost us those 2 guys salary to begin with) and then pick up JP as cheaply as possible.

And right now, with the ammount of trades (being no trades happening) and UFA still out there, I just don't see any easy trades being made unless they are for nothing in return.

I would love to see Dumont in a habs jersey mainly because he is one of the few players out there to state that he WANTS to play in Montreal but in all reality I agree with everyones else's assessment. I still think that if Gainey is going to put us closer to the cap by signing another player that he should seriously consider trying to acquire Leetch. Since no top centermen are left I think he would be a very nice fit on our blueline and I think the price would be reasonable.
