Lets face it we have a average team. We are not going to compete in the playoffs anyway (I could be pleasantly suprised - but not likely). With all the things going on with the Koivu injury (personally I think he is finished in his career - tough to get to the calibre of play he was at from that type of injury) and other injuires I see it as an opportunity for some of our prospects to get some nhl time.
We are rebuilding and need to start bringing up our young guns and see what they are made of. Montreal fans can not stand the fact of losing. I for one am alright with not making the playoffs for the next 2 years to grow the team.
We will get better. I think Gainey has done the best with what he's got even though I disagree with signing the cube and riberio to so much money. We just have to see how the team will pan out and maybe it will turn out fine.
So I guess we can see you in 2010 Flowerpower, since you have written them off till then, I can't really see why you'd waste your time here with a losing team
there is nooooooooooooo building for the future,it is building for the "NOW" .You are not going to see teams winning 3 or 4 or 5 years in a row anymore, with the way teams are getting rid of high priced players, and rookies having great seasons wanting big contracts,no more comittment, loyalty, anymore to teams ,bottom line is the "BUCKS".And the bucks don't always win you a cup.Someone said they would rather have the "HABS" win consecutive seasons in a row, rather than a one season team, well it AIN"T GONNA HAPPEN,maybe two years in a row but that's it.Specially with the cap ,if ryder gets 50 goals this season do you think he'll take a one year contract,i think not, any of these players, fair well this season will be taking the fast train down the road, the "HABS " or any other team.It was said the DUCKS are going to win it this year,if they do will they still have the same team the following year, myself says no way JOSE'.

You're so right Doodie, a perfect example of that is Buffalo, they are now paying the price because a few of their players had good seasons.
My take on it all is, it's not the most talented team that wins the CUP, but the team with the most chemistry. My money is on the HABS, there is still that untouchable about being a Hab, had Koivu not gone down, who knows what would have happened.

Doodie- you and I have disagreed on a few things but this is one that we are in TOTAL agreement on. As I have said in previous posts, the cap has changed everything. YES you can build a team from within and the draft. YES you can have a run at a cup that way. But NO you cannot do it for more than a year or so. Look at Buffalo. They were at around 30 mill last year and had a very good team. Now they are fighting with cap issues. WHY? Because in the "New NHL" as soon as players start getting successful they are going to be rewarded hugely. either through arbitration or through free agency and going elsewhere. Edmonton will be nowhere next year. Carolina could not hang onto alot of their players because of pay raises.
In the new NHL you are gonna get ONE crack and ONE crak only at a cup..then it is back to rebuilding.

"If Only" Gainey had not overpaid certain players.... we'd have a team to cheer for this year right?. Some posters attitudes are ridiculous... why should we bother watching our guys at all this season??
Gainey signed till 2009 (I think)... that's a long f***in' time to listen to all this Habs/Gainey sucks crap from some of you. It's already getting tired.
It's funny... some of us that like to think & discuss the "if only" issues about our habs have been ridiculed for it, but it's fine & dandy for these posters to constantly piss & moan about the same crap every single day. "If only" they had a brighter outlook, maybe things wouldn't seem so bad.
one person here think's he is the ultimate hockey fan (i've read that in one post) smart hockey knowledge(something to that effect) well i for one don't have any hockey knowledge,i just love watching the "habs " play, (i've been doing it for 40 years) so if they win,it's a fantastic day for me, if they loose i'm depressed, but not to the point, that I would bash someone who has an (opinion) about why they lost,or i told you so,or go back to the post i typed BULL s**T.Were all "HABS"fans and if you have a topic, or a discussion then letter rip ,and listen to the positive and negative, because no matter what we aren't going to change "NOTHING" that happen's with the "HABS".SO relax and have some fun. I love it "GO HABS GO" lol
