According to RDS, Boullion had knee surgery in Colorado yesterday, and his recovery time is estimated at 4 to 6 weeks.
The Russian Hockey Federation announced that it will not join the IIHF-NHL hockey agreement that regulates transfers between European clubs and the American league. The IIHF-NHL agreement sets the financial sums the NHL sends to European federations in player transfers. The IIHF redistributes the money among national federations and clubs that lose players to the NHL, using a formula decided by the IIHF and national federations. As a result players like Alexi Emelin (a Habs top prospect) that have signed deals in Russia can't come over and play in North America. It would appear that the Penguins will not have Malkin either.
Well....if thats the case then the Cube should almost be ready in time for training camp which is a positive thing......I think As for the Russian transfer agreement it appears that Malkins agent has found a loophole in the Russian labor law which bodes well for alot of the Russian prospects...if it's true. I found the following on Spectors website.....
Pens prospect Evgeny Malkin is under contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk, but Price writes "a provision in Russian labor law allows employees to leave their jobs whether a contract exists or not after giving two weeks' written notice." Malkin's agent Don Meehan claims his client has put in that written notice and he will open talks with the Penguins on an entry level contract.
So if all goes as expected he should be ready to play opening night.
However in a worst case scenario even if recovery is 8 weeks and hes not ready for game one, he should be able to get on the ice around the start of the season and with some practice time before he plays he should not miss more than 5 or 6 games.
