............................than Komisarek , Higgins and Perezhogin ....the Isles gave him a 328,000.00 raise to 950k...............one of the Hab's worst trades ever .........
Keep in mind that Asham is a veteran. You can't really compare his salary to someone who's still pretty much unproven and doesn't have a whole lot of choice about his salary (like Perezhogin or Plekanec).

It is easy to have a soft spot for Asham, great work ethic, will pay the price in front of the net, but the guy is a career fourth liner. Begin,Murray supply the same sort of game, Asham would be redundant. As a restricted free agent, Asham has alot more bargaining power under the new CBA than players under the age of 28 like Komisarek and Higgins.
As far as one of the worst trades ever, well the Asham for Czerkawski deal is not even a blip on the radar screen when compared to Chelios for Savard, Desjardins and LeClair for Recchi. Roy for Kovalenko,Ruchinsky and Thibault, to name just a few of the Habs more brutal trades.

I agree Wright..the habs went through a stage where they could have been the feature attraction in the NHL Worst Trades Hall of Shame. The Asham deal does not even show up in my memory to be honest. A career 4th liner who was not happy in Montreal for a guy who at one time, could actually score goals. A gamble worth taking in my department.
