He last contract was $2.356 million. The Habs don't have the cap room, and if he did take a substantial pay cut, that wouldn't leave the Habs any room for the trade deadline (Not that they have alot of room now).

he just signed with detroit ,no terms , 5th team in 5 years , could be a problem child .

DETROIT (CP) - Free agent defenceman Danny Markov has agreed to terms with the Detroit Red Wings, a source told The Canadian Press on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old spent last season with the Nashville Predators, a team as deep as any on the blue-line. He had 11 assists and a plus-9 rating in 58 games last season.

Markov will join his sixth NHL team and fifth in as many years.

In 472 NHL games with Toronto, Phoenix, Carolina, Philadelphia and the Predators, he has 25 goals and 106 assists for 131 points.

Would And-o be happy if Sundin was captain and first line center for the Habs? It seems you covet this big, strong #1 center who will take us to the promise land... Toronto has a big, strong #1 center who has taken them nowhere...

I think there is something else that makes And-o hate our captain...

And-o would be thrilled with Sundin for Koivu (who wouldn't)...who...by the way...has seen wayyyyyyy more playoff games than Saku ever will.

...my latest "beef" with Saku supporters is the annual sandbagging they are now doing for the upcoming season...as in, "IF he returns to health"! NEWSFLASH!!! Saku Koivu has been cleared to play and train since about 30 days after the Habs were beaten out.

…and John…Mats is a 9X 30 goal guy…a 3X 40 goal guy…as in, 12 seasons of +30 goals!!! Also, Mats is a 6X +80 point guy.

Sak-who, on the other hand, is NONE of those things…NOT ONCE!

Yet, he is worshipped by some!!! Go figure!

And-o just doesn’t get how folks are content to just shove their head in the sand regarding this guy!

Actually I would take Sundin for Koivu staright up anyday. Toronto has made it to the divisional finals a couple times and his health has been much better. Having said that, it ain t gonna happen so lets cheer for Koivu and hope that he and Ribs have a great season.

And-o, there's my point you would rather have a guy who has accomplished no more than Saku in the playoffs. The sport is a team game and unless your team is good enough, you aren't going to win.

Anyways, you and I will always see it differently no matter how much we debate. That's why I'd prefer you over on a goleafs board....

why do we have to lose Koivu to get Sundin?!?!?! Im sorry but for a guy that i like so much ( Saku ) i would never want him to haev to suffer through playing in a sh*t team like toronto! Id love to see Sundin come to Montreal, but chances are it wont happen, especially for Saku. And-o is right, Sundin beats Koivu in every stat. BUt Saku beats Sundin at heart and inspiration. Saku is a great leader, but he isnt an ELITE player.

. The point I was trying to make is that just because a player has better stats doesn't mean he is necessarily more "right" for the team. It's kind of like when Ando says that we need more North American players (he may be right) but at the same time the only one's who stress the values other wise expressed on this board, tradition , desire to play in Montreal, etc, are Russian. Johnson, too, of course ,mentioned something along those lines. You can't have your cake and eat it, too...
