and-o those numbers must be off , there is no way in hel@ that someone under 6-3 put up those numbers , not in the nhl , i know as well as you , you have to be a big player to be any good in hockey .

Are you serious macneil? if you are you must not be watching the same hockey the rest of us are.
The Gomez trade requirement that his new team take on either Mogilny or Malakhov is being made with the intention of using the money freed up to resign Gionta.
yes but at 5-7 , 175 how does he put up with all those giants on the ice , well good thing gomes, his center is a hulking 5-11 ,200lbs or they might not put up any points at all and be sent to the minors . marc savard at 5-10 , 195 and brier at 5-10,178 and drury at 5-10 , 200 lbs better start playing wing or they'll never score any points in the nhl .hell even sakic at 5-11 , 195 beter move to wing or he'll never amount to anything . the fact is you could show me 10 big good guys and 10 small bad guys and i could show you 10 bad big guys and 10 small good guys , the point is when you good your good and when you not your not , its not height that determines your skill level . the fact that saks finaly has some players around him make me believe hell do well this year . it seems silly to say but it all hinges on ribs , if he can make his 2 russian wingers clik and be a threat then koivu will see less attention and his linewill be better for it .
Why we even bother debating (if you can call it that) Koivu anymore. He's here to stay and that's it. Nothing will change and we all know what everyone thinks of the guy. So, let's get that Koivu moratorium back in effect. This really gets annoying.

Koivu is what Koivu is..an effective second line center who is an awesome set up guy and effecetive on the PP. Get him a big guy to take some of the heat off of him and he will be even more effective. Being a small centerman is NOT a detriment in itself (see Yzerman and Sakic for example). But being small without a big strong center on another line to play against the other team's studs is a detriment. For too long Koivu has had to play the role of the big guy. Not his fault, it is the team's fault. Get a go to big center to manhandle the likes of the Thorntons and Sundins and Brindamours and Lindros' on a night to night basis and you will see Koivu in the top 20 in league scoring (sorry Mulsey but I am thinking top 10 from where he is may be a stretch).

amen barry , i know hed be a great 2nd line center but for now hes our only option for the num. 1 job . i got this off mitch melnick blog at team990.com . the last ill say on koivu .
Which brings us to the moral of this story. It doesn`t matter anymore whether fans or members of the media dislike, dis-respect or just plan dis Saku Koivu. What`s quite clear, with a track record to back it up, is unlike some guys who melt as the snow does, Koivu heats up at playoff time. And now it`s on the books, forever. A two game series lead with a one goal lead in game three with him. Four straight one goal losses without him. One of the league`s top five power plays with him. A punchless power play without him.
Ten years ago it looked like Koivu was the second coming of Henri Richard. Leading the league in scoring before ripping up his knee. Losing at least a step in the process. But still an effective force and one heck of a playmaker. No Pocket Rocket but still a chance to become the Finnish version of Doug Gilmour. More serious injuries. Cancer. More comebacks than Cher. And then Justin Williams` high stick.
Koivu might never be fully embraced by this city but he fully embraces IT. I hope this series loss magnifies his true value to the Canadiens, and by extension, to Montreal. There would be no talk of `how proud we are" to lose an opening round playoff series in six games. Certainly not a winnable one
