The Montreal Canadiens were busy with contract work on Monday, re-signing defenceman Mike Komisarek to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 24-year-old Komisarek began living up to his first-round billing last season with a solid season, putting up 116 penalty minutes along with six points in 71 games.

The former Michigan star was taken by the Canadiens in the first-round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

With his play last season I would have signed him to more than a 1 year deal, but I'm still happy

Since he has limited experience, I think it was a good move signing a 1 year deal.  A good adjustment year.  A contract year with 82 to games to prove he deserves 3 yrs at a bundle.  I trust Gainey with the youth movement deals.

He is improving all aspects of his game.  Hopefully with the confidence he is gaining he will have a breakout year.
