Johnny- unless I am missing something we are at 38 million with a 44 million cap..what happened to this huge amount of cap room everyone talked about on here and were so excited about? 6 mill does not buy you alot of free agents in this day and age. Or in Gainey's case, does not buy you any free agents.

With all the raises going around it has eaten all the cap space we had... :(
Nice And- O, would you say, as you did with Julien before he got canned, that this is Streeeeeeike one for Gainey? Our cap money is gone. This same cap money that you raved about and were wetting your pants about in another post. Or will Gainey continue to be known as Teflon Bob?

Sympatico/MSN Sports reports the same:http://sports.sympatico.msn.cbc.ca/Home/ContentPosting.aspx?feedname=CBC-SPORTS-V2&newsitemid=nhlsignings&showbyline=True
$4M is plenty when you trade away some salaries. Seriously, there is about $6M that we are screaming to dump. We may not see a big move but out team doesn't suck.

And-o...howww you say???...no speake ze english!!! LOL!
Seriously though Barry33.....And-o is a little considered about the inflation factor that took a huge chunk out of our cap space as well.....but And-o assumed that Bob would need to clear some cap room anyway via the trade route.
Having said this...And-o is not yet prepared to deliver Bob-o strike one.....although And-o has warned the 'dug-out' about the dirty accounting practices!!!
P.S. CJ deserved each and every 'strike' against him...And-o was more than fair! Rest assured...Bob will be accountable to the fans this season!!!

barry33 wonders if And-O would be so forgiving and leniant if Gainey were not a habs legend. barry33 thinsk that Gainey gets cut alot of slack by And-O because of this

The habs cap money is gone? I am confused... the club will still have 6 million to utilize, to either acquire a quality player in a trade, or pick up Samsanov as a free agent (I know totally unrealistic).
More concerning, is the fact that Shanahan after talking to Gainey, and being offered more money, decided to sign on with the Rangers. Perhaps Shanny felt the habs future is not as bright as many of this boards posters (including myself) feel it is. Shanahan obviously felt the Rangers were much closer to winning the cup than the habs.

And-o and Bob-o originate from the same town...we drank the same water! Thus, Bob-o enjoys 'home-ice advantage' of sorts where And-o is concerned.
However, make no mistake, blood is thicker than water...and Bob-o is not too far off of being in And-o's bomb sites.....afterall, it was Saku's contract that got the OVER-inflationary ball rolling...plus the foolish 'no trade' clause...which is a big hairy monster in the closet if ever there was one!
Some of the numbers are off. IE Huet is being paid 3,000,000. but only counts 2.875 against the cap as his cap number is his total contract value/years, not his pay per year. Not sure on all the other numbers too.
Where are you getting the numbers?? Some of the numbers are off. IE Huet is being paid 3,000,000. but only counts 2.875 against the cap as his cap number is his total contract value/years, not his pay per year. Not sure on all the other numbers too. 5.75/2 = 2.875
Nope, for Huet, he is being paid 3M for 06/07 and 2.75M for 07/08.

I know that, but you cannot avoid the cap by paying a player more in one year over another. His real money figure for this year may be 3million, but his cap hit is only 2.85 done with my math earlier. 07/08 his real money will be 2.75 but the cap hit will be 2.85 again.
Cap hits are determined by Value of Contract / years on contract. This was put in place so teams could not backload contracts assuming the cap would increase every year. At the same time Huet's front loaded contract (and all others) is subject to the same rules.

Irregardless Beak,we do not have this huge cap windfall that many thought. Given the fact that we do not have many tradeable players (at least ones that Gainey wants to part with) to get RFA's and not a huge amount of cash for UFA's (not that anyone wants to play here anyway), it is looking like our awesome one/two center punch of Koivu and Ribiero are intact for another year.

add in Aebs at about 1.9, Ryder (2.5 is his asking price, so I'm betting about 2), and Perezhogin (673 like the others) Kostitsyn (807) and we are at 38.6 million. There is still room for at least 4-5 million to go on the payroll.
Also have to figure that Zednick is on the way out, that is 2 more million free which would be our reserve cash for trade deadline.
