I got this from another site

SHANAHAN A RANGER?

NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports of learning Brendan Shanahan has agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with the New York Rangers "after spurning more lucrative offers from both the Red Wings and Canadiens." Brooks reports the official announcement could be made today.

Spector's Note: Hat tip to "Josh". Brooks also points out this explains the "Welcome Brendan Shanahan" visual that some folks claimed to have seen last week outside MSG. This is a bit of a deviation from the Rangers rebuilding process but the deal is only for one season so at least they're not saddling themselves long term with a big contract if "Shanny" should decline. I guess he'll be on the Jagr line?

Oh my God! What's this world coming to? Less $ for NY after dangling how he wants to be in the CH? I'm going to go sleep the summer off now because I feel like I keep getting stood up for the Prom.

Anyone know what the more lucrative deals for MTL and DET were? Probably longer temr and more cash.

Wow, he must really want to play for New York, or really not want to play for Montreal. I don't get it. He's a good player who would be treated like a god in Montreal. And we offered him more money!

Just doesn't make sense...

I blame Jay for representing the Habs at the airport. Maybe came on a little strong? Maybe the more lucrative offer was $4M a year AND a free seat upgrades.

Rmour has it that Jay had been drinking the night before and had a terrible case of bad breath.

What bothers me the most about these signings is this. Pretty much EVERY team in our division has made significant improvements. The Rangers will be better. Poti WILL stabliize a young Islanders blue line (and Ted Nolan will get that team in the playoffs this year), Boston is  amuch improved team with their siginings, and yes, even the Laffs, with Maurice as coach and if Raycroft returns to form, have a legitimate shot at a playoff spot. The east is gonna be very tough this year folks.

  1. Ottawa will make the playoffs of course

  2. Jersey will

  3. Rangers will

  4. Sabres will

  5. Philly will

  6. Carolina will

  7. Tampa will

  8. leaving 1 spot between Trawna, Habs, Bruins Islanders, (yes even Pittsburgh), Florida is better with big Bert if they get decent goaltending and Atlanta who barely missed last year.

I predict that the Islanders WILL get a playoff spot this year..leaving us to scrap it out with Boston, Toronto and Atlanta. 1 spot between 4 legitimate teams. Get er done Bob.

This is awful news!

Shanny is not worth $+4 million...but the Habs need an undisputed leader...someone who is absolutely, without question, a top notch warrior - and Shanny is that type of a guy!

...no point in crying over 'spilled milk' though!

Time to move on.  BG better start pulling rabbits out of a hat.  With Ribsey as our 2nd line C we aren't going anywhere.

Know what is even scarier? If Saks cant go, RIbs is our number one center.

You mean another. koivu is a warrior. Every team needs two or three scoring/elite guys who are also warriors.

Muller, don't get sucked in. You must know by now that the "O" in And-o is really a black hole made to suck in anyone getting to close. Just leave it alone and you'll be fine.

Hey fig.

I figure And-o pretty much works a saku bash into most posts thinking that he has cleverly disguised them...unfortunately for him...we are men with superior intellegence...while I think he has been living for years in his own made up fantasy world... aboard the holodeck(sp?...not much of a treky really):)...
