4 yrs for less that $1 per? Why not, I say. But, as suggested in another thread, since Gainey wasn't able to hit his targets, maybe he is waiting for the dust to settle.
Since this is a thread about Tom Poti, let's have one of our techie guru's post some stats.
DOB: Mar 22, 1977 Age: 29 Place of Birth: Worcester, MA, USA HT: 6-3 WT: 210 Shoots: L NHL Seasons: 7 Drafted by Edmonton in 1996 (3/59).
Assets: Presents a tremendous physical package with a very heavy shot, great size and mobility. Has outstanding offensive upside.
Flaws: Has a tendency to complicate matters in the defensive zone. Must work on his play without the puck and use his size more to keep forwards honest.
Career potential: Power play quarterback.

Bob MacKenzie announced on TSN that "Tom Poti and the Montreal Canadien could have signed a deal. Sources told that should be a contract of 4 years for 15 millions "
We have Souray already. More offence, bigger, hits harder and plays better in the defensive zone. All this for 2.4 mil. Yes, I remember, he missed some checks, but I still think he is a high quality defensman.
Why sign Poti? Less offense? Smaller? Lousy in the defensive zone, don't believe me ask Kevin Lowe. And for a rumoured 3.75 Mil.
Power wrote: From another board. Apparently this is a false rumour. Bob Mackenzie was not on TSN this morning someone just made that up. and Mackenzie is apparently on holidays.
lol, you got that from the sportsnet website, cause thats where I read the exact same thing this afternoon
And a good thing too. Tom Poti is NOT what we need. Our defense corps is well-stocked with decent-not-great guys. If we are going to pick up a defenseman it should be a prospect or a #1.
