Look at what they have done for their organization..... Brought in a new coach....an allstar Dman(Niedermeyer..spelling) Got Sellane line mates that wanted to play and QUICKLY REBUILD THEIR FRANCHISE. Great Draft picks....players that wanted to play ....and just landed another BOMB in Pronger. Burke should be holding personal Seminars to Bob Gainey to teach him how to rebuild a franchise in less than 3 years.

The weather aside, you cannot tell me that any hockey player who grew up in Canada, idolizing the NHL and dreaming of playing in that league, would choose to play in Mickey Mouse Land in relative obscurity, rather then in Montreal. In Montreal the players are revered as Gods. THey are worshipped. They go to a bar on Crescent Street with a mile long lineup and are let in ahead of everyone. They are the toast of the town. I doubt anyone would ever recognize them in Anaheim. Players all have huge egos. They WANT to be recognized. They want to be hounded for autographs. Sorry guys, I just do not see a Canadian kid who grew up breathing hockey choosing Montreal or Nashville over Montreal. I think that they would gladly put up with the media and taxes for a chance to play in a Mecca. As for the language, Craig Rivet has never had an issue with it. Does this mean we should kiss Chris Higgins (who by the way says he loves the city) good bye too? Why bother drafting Carey Price or David Fischer?

Brian Burke frankly is the best GM in the game by far. This is just another example of him working his magic. It's no surprise he left Vancouver and they fell apart. And he comes to Anaheim and they instantly have a turnaround season.
But he's a very different type of GM than Gainey. Gainey's patient and wants to build a dynasty for many years, it would seem. Burke wants to win now and builds winners today. I'd rather have Burke personally, but we've got Gainey, so we'd better get used to him.
In Anaheim there's ZERO pressure to win anything. Most players love not being bothered. Where do you think Pronger wants his kids to go to school, in some useless French school? I think not.
Florida, TB, Anaheim, LA, players will go because it's nice and hot and can play a mediocre game without getting their heads chopped off.
to all these players that would rather play in a hot city rather than a hockey hotbed i say good riddance . theywant the big bucks and the idolization but dont want the pressure of performing . they are the kind of players that i dont want anyway now we may miss out on the ufa market but we will devolop our own players and we will bring in people that want to play in mtl. like gainey said in his season ending p.c. if your a person that cares than mtl. is the place for you .

If I am a hockey player, Montreal without question. A dynasty. A class team that I grew up watching. If I am a wannabe movie star, Anaheim.

Sorry but the days of the tough as nails, wanna play hockey till both knees colapse(Orr...) are Looonnnng gone. These kids know from age 14 that they are potentially going to be "big-shots"...and they watch MTV cribs etc...They like the "hollywood lifestyle". playing for the great dynasty just ain't what it used to be...oh there will be a small few rare ones... but it is rare nowadays.
It is a sad , sad commentary on the so called "athletes" of today. Spoiled rotten, spoon fed, and led around by the picture of George Washington...as the Hansons used to say "Give me some old time hockey..Eddie Shore"!

I wish it were just the money issue barry. Montreal can offer the money...just not the lifestyle.
I actually don't blame the guys for avoiding the childish media in Montreal. Why subject yourself to that garbage?
And Playin' for Montreal is not as glorified as it used to be.

Ya I guess..in a way I am glad that CJ is toiling away in relative obscurity in Jersey now..although he swears to this day that he LOVED the media in Montreal..go figure.

Thing is, Montreal has a bad rep at the moment, but things can turn around. Look at Edmonton and Calgary....took them a decade, but they are back. Mostly because they trusted a gradual approach and then picked their spots. I see Gainey doing the same. Actually this year...I think a run will be attempted if the season starts well. It is now our time.
I'm actually sort of happy with our defense, because Souray really picked it up and got his game back together. Markov was tired from injuries and being the go-to guy all year for a group that wasn't talented, but he's a keeper in my mind. And I really don't have a problem with Rivet, Bouillon, Dandenault, Komisarek either. I think Dandenault and Komi will have better years.
I like the goaltending situation.
The wingers are mostly young and talented, and showed against Carolina that they were willing to play two-way, uptempo hockey. Really, we put up a great fight in 5 games out of six that series, and could easily have won it without some horrendous luck in game 3.
But yes, something has to be done about our centres. That's where Gainey HAS to make a move, in my opinion. This summer, please.....I do want to see ONE big move.
