With Patrick Lalime leaving, if they can't pick up a goalie on the free agent market, a trade with them would be good. If I was a GM, here is what I would offer:
To St.Louis: David Aebisher, Richard Zednik, Mike Ribeiro
I personally do not expect Aebischer to be traded in the offseason. Huet has only had half a season so far. I expect Gainey to give him a bit more time to show he wasn't a one hit wonder before dealing away his backup plan.

I never thought about it in those terms and I agree to an extent but I also think if a decent offer came in for Aebischer that Gainey would trade him in a heartbeat. I guess time will tell though.

If there was a demand for Richard Zednik and Mike Ribeiro they would have been gone by now.
Don't expect anything more than draft picks. Supply and demand and with UFA a plenty why would teams trade? Sure they can dump salary. That's thje only way montreal stands to gain and by that it would mean to take a substantial load in salary.
I read that Lalime re-signed for 1-year with St. Louis. I also would never want to see Tkachuk in a Habs' jersey, he is about as classless as they come. I would think an Aebischer/Zednik connection would have decent value, but I am not so sure about Ribs... We also have Danis who is ready to come up and he should make an excellent back-up who can push Huet. He has the talent.
Gainey is perhaps one of the most respected hockey knowlegable guy around...if Gainey does not want Zednik, Ribeiro...then I imagine other GM's might REALLY wonder why eh?
Funny how it works. Don't expect much in return for Ribs, Zed or even Bulis. Might be better to just keep them...
Now John Ferguson on the other hand...so dumb that many GM's would take his offerings...maybe Gainey should start talking like Homer Simpson...

If I hear one more "Zednick and Ribieor for..." trade I am gonna puke. Muller is absolutely right. If Gainey does not want them who would? And laugh at Ferguson all you want..at least he is TRYING to improve his team and has done so significantly since the draft. They are a much better team in goal and defensively then they were two weeks ago. But hey...I am sure it is the tax situation and the friendlier people in Toronto. I know when I walk down YOunge Street my hand gets sore from people stopping to shake it.

You have to admit though Barry that there is at least 1 guy every year who says that they want to play in Toronto, but you will almost never hear that being said about Montreal. Also, as much as it seems Toronto has improved, they also really overspent on second and third tier guys and still don't have any forwards. I will wait until I see that squad in action before I give their moves a thumbs up.
