It would be a real change along the walls of the Bell Centre if Gainey could sign Shanahan & Guerin. Two leaders, who could show the young guys (Ryder, Higgins etc.) what it takes along the walls to win the battles.
I think Guerin will have a rebound season wherever he goes. Shanny still has gas in the tank. It would give Montreal an entirely new look up front - and some real hard shooting snipers.
They are both over the hill.............get serious!!
That may be true but what this team is in need of is some veteran leadership up front. Beyond Koivu and Kovalev how many true veterans do we have? I say if they can both be had for a reasonable amount then Gainey should go for it.
I would gladly welcome the leadership Guerin and Shanny would bring to this team. Back in 1993 the leadership of a few key veteran players meant all the difference in bringing home Lord Stanleys cup over a team led by the Great One himself. I'm not saying that signing Shanny and Guerin would guarantee us spot in the 06/07 finals but it sure wouldn't hurt our chances either. Once again I will say that it all comes down to the asking price for each player. I certainly wouldn't sell the farm to sign both of them but if the price is right I wouldn't hesitate to offer them both a roster spot.
Being over the hill doesn't matter if you can still play. Gordie Howe still played until he was in his 50s. And look at Chris Chelios! He's still playing solid
