Canadiens sign Ferland
(06/29/2006)

Jonathan Ferland scored his first NHL goal in his NHL debut on January 3, 2006 against the Penguins.

PRESS RELEASE

MONTREAL - Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Thursday the signing of forward Jonathan Ferland to a one-year contract (2006-07). As per club policy, financial terms of the deal are not disclosed.

Ferland, 23, completed the 2005-06 season with 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) and 65 penalty minutes in 39 games with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs. The 6-foot-2, 209-pound right-winger missed 23 games with a knee injury. He played in seven games with the Canadiens, scoring his first NHL goal in his first NHL game, January 3, 2006 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Bell Centre.

Ferland, a native of Ste-Marie de Beauce, was the Canadiens’ fifth pick, 212th overall, in 2002.
