hey and-o that depends on what raycroft shows up . he looked terrible last year , was that because the league figured him out or with the more wide open game teams were getting better scoring chances and barrying them . if he can regain his form and deal with the to media , (somewhat of a local boy) then to got a good goalie . but rask could be good also , he was voted best goalie at the world juniors ahead of pogge so he must be alright . eithe way to. took a shot and habs fans hope we get the 05/06 rycroft after jfj signs him long term that is .lol
Raycroft did not play much during the lock-out, then he held out for more $$$ during the training camp leading up to this past season. By the time he finally got on the ice he was a mess. Then injuries did him in. All in all he had himself a very unproduction two year span. If he finds his Calder form from 03-04 then Toronto just got themselves a pretty good goalie. Toivonen and Thomas will man the pipes for Boston, so Raycroft was really just a third wheel here anyway.
I think Reycraft has Theo-itis. He was terrible last year, and I am sure will continue that in TO next year. Way to go again Leafs, give up a top prospect for a washed up bum.
I think the new rules on goalie equipment size hurt some and helped others ie Theo and Raycroft to name a couple. With that being said I'm all for Raycroft having the same difficulties in 06-07 with the Loafs as he did in 05-06 with the B's....
I think it was a very good deal by JFJ, especially considering what was available. Raycroft is a very good goalie and I don't think what he did in 2004 was necessarily a fluke. I doubt he'll be as good as he was that year, but he certainly won't be as bad as he was last year. This is very good for Toronto because it immediately solidifies their goaltending position. And if he plays well, they'll keep him. If not, they have Pogge coming up the ranks.
I don't like Ferguson at all, but kudos to him on a good move.
I love how people are already calling Raycroft a PROVEN number one. He is far from it, he's about as proven as Jim Carey and Byron Dafoe. And it has been two years since Raycrofts steller rookie season and during the lockout i remember hearing about him struggling were he was playing.
but a gamble like raycroft you shouldnt give a bluechip prospect for . if hes a bust you lost a good prospect for nothing . he is 26 years old so hes developed into what he is , either the calder winner or the 3rd string goalie on a non playoff team . only time will tell .
