Same Old Habs on Draft Day

Trevor Timmins (in the article on Mario's front page) talks about his desire to move up in the draft and take a Quebec born player. He talks about the "new NHL" and the need for speed vs size (Geesh..how did Joe Thornton manage to win the scoring title and MVP!?!??!). When will the Canadiens get away from this "we must satisfy the french media and fans" BS and start drafting the best players irregardless?!??

Personally I could give a rats ass if the guy is from Quebec, PEI, or the planet Pluto!! The habs legacy of picking Quebec duds in the draft the last 10-15 years is lengthy (see Gilbert Dionne..see Eric Choiunard). As for the speed and size issue I agree that the new NHL focuses on that to an extent..but when you see guys like Brindamour (my son is a faster skater) and Thornton excelling....we have a ton of tiny guys who can skate..smurfs on blades. We need guys who will pay the price and wreak havoc.

Damn right Barry33!!!

Although Andre Savard and Trevor Timmins have both done wonders in terms of adding some organizational depth, enough-is-enough with selecting guys with "loads of offensive upside"!

Time to draft brawn...grit...passion...and heart!

...and And-o will just absolutely flip if any more smurfs arrive in Montreal (eg.  Martin St.Louis)!  In fact, let's lose a few of these butter-cups who just can’t get the job done!!!

ANYTHING for a Vincent LeCavalier…or a healthy Keith Primeau…or a Rod Brind’Amour…Patrick Marleau…Joe Thornton....ANYTHING!!!

Cripes gang, why not trade-up and go after a Staal, a Kessel, a Toews etc….(mostly centres in the top 8 picks…SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!!)

I want to see a defenceman personally.  We have many forwards in the system but lack a defenceman.  As far as centres go Kyle Chipchura is a good one coming up with size and grit.  Some would compare him to a Rod Brindamour type player (though less ugly) in terms of leadership, grit, face/offs, and two way play.

As far as getting a centre, I agree we need one badly, but we do not need a drafted centre, we need an NHL ready guy right now.

Well put Beaker baby....I would not trade up and draft a center this year...we need a guy who is alreayd established..however those may be few and far between this year..in Bob we trust.
