Wow calm down......... 2 trips to the Stanley Cup finals in 3 years and one Stanley Cup! They deserve the cup. I don't see how one can be so pissed did they just knock out our habs in the Stanley Cup finals ??!! Um no they didn't, they knocked out a Western Conference team that barely made the playoffs.

Habs/Avs. _ I said it before. These gusy make it EASY to hate them. The way they cried every time they lost, the way they whined, not speaking to the press when they lost. To me, it has nothing to do with beating the habs. The way they beat and thrashed their way to a cup was one thing..but the total lack of class shown by them makes it impossible to like them. They have alot to learn about being a class organisation.

You meant they BARELY knocked out a team that barely made the playoffs right????

And don't tell him to calm down!!! He has every right to voice his opinion like that. Did he insult you??? Nope.... Did he speak directly to you??? Nope.... Is he responding to a post of yours???? Nope. You're responding to his remember.......so don't take it personal & don't tell him what to do.

I honestly think you are just flaming for fun.... because you are surely in the minority here. Don't respond so disrespectfully H&A.... that post was left IMMEDIATELY after the game when passions were high.... not the next day like you.

Agreed, McGirl. And btw, just to clarify, my Welsh comment wasn't about making light of your comments, it is just your rant was written like the Welsh language; very long line of letters with few distinguishable breaks between words.
Carolina is a better team than Edmonton, but they never should have been playing for the Cup in the first place and Williams certainly shouldn't have been playing in any more play-off games after his multiple high-sticks. A classless organization.

Agree Barry. I always just enjoy the cup celebrations regardless of who wins. I generally feel the team that won deserved it.

I do think the Canes' dererved to win...good season start to finish. Aside from Cam Ward and that Kevin Adams guy...what a bunch of classless idiots. Did any of you notice the constant "F" word when hoisting the cup???

I know it's a thrill of a lifetime but many young kids watch that stuff. For a bunch of veterens...they disgust me. Period.

And you know what else...I think that jackass Williams should have said something about poking Koivu's eye out in his interview...At least wished him well or something...( joking...a bit).

I am a 'Canes fan and I had just stopped by to lurk looking for a Koivu update. I saw this thread and wanted to just toss in my two cents for whatever it's worth.

I really do believe that our team has gotten an unfair bum rap, based heavily on the "southern hockey" bias. I feel like we've been in a no win situation when it comes to what everyone else thinks of us.

Regarding our team: I mean if our coach said something about a bad call or (for example) Torres leaving his feet to make a hit, then we are "Whiners". Yet if the other team complains (for example Ladd getting tossed into Roloson by MAB) then instead of the other team being whiners too, we are "dirty players". How do you combat that?

(And as for the Williams thing, first of all, nobody felt worse about it than he did. It was unintentional, but without a doubt Justin should have been in better control of his stick. And there wouldn't have been a single complaint if a ref saw it and Williams ended up with a game misconduct or a suspension. But that doesn't make him a dirty player or a bad person. It was just a terrible accident.)

And regarding our fans: As for the "redneck NASCAR" cracks, while I understand them, there honestly is a big difference between Raleigh and other North Carolina cities like Charlotte (where the NASCAR jokes are a little more accurate.) Unlike Charlotte, Raleigh is made up of about 60% northern transplants who grew up with hockey in their blood. Sure we have quite a few new local fans that even after 9 years are still learning the game. But two finals appearances since 2002 and we're beginning to turn a good number of those bandwagon fans into diehards. I only see that continuing to grow. I realize our city doesn't have the hockey history or tradition like Montreal or Toronto, but in our own southern way we're working on creating one for ourselves.

For example: While we did have a second parade downtown, we were being ridiculed for holding our main "celebration" in the arena parking lot. But I don't catch why that's a problem. By holding it in the parking lot people were able to show up hours ahead of time and tailgate. There were BBQs going, kids playing street hockey, live bands, etc long before the "parade" and the speeches were held. There isn't wrong with incorporating something that has always been associated with football into hockey. If it helps grow our fanbase, how can that be a bad thing?

I realize I am just one person, and there isn't any way I'm going to change any of your minds. But if you'd give us a chance to continue to build on the foundation that has taken root here, 5 years from now I honestly believe that you will find that both Raleigh and the Carolina Hurricanes will have earned your complete respect.

Anyway, thanks for listening, and I'm off to keep looking for more news on Koivu. I haven't heard much recently but I hope he's continuing to improve.

What really peeves me about the canes is the fact that they are willing to give 20 minute interviews after wins and nothing after losses.

Here we have a team in a market that is traditionally not very hockey savy, and the press gives them little attention most of the time. So now when they do get some press, and the reporters need quotes to do their job, guys like Brindamour are figuratively screwing them by not providing access after a loss.

Reporters and editors have long memories. Next year in game 34 of the regular season the Canes may be lucky to appear in the paper at all.

Add to that from Game One of the playoffs i saw Cullen Brindamour and Laviolette whining to referees like mad. Don't get me wrong Lindy Ruff was another guy i complained about whining to the refs.

As far as running goalies, when Huet complains, then Brodeur, then Ruff, then Roloson is hurt, while i see evidence that perhaps Carolina was crowding the crease a little bit. Then when Ryan Smyth scores a funny one you have Carolina players saying "we got memos from the league saying running the crease would not be tolerated, blah, blah, blah" after the game. Seems a little hypocritical to me.

this place will be all the better then. I haven't seen you make many postive posts. Seems that you should change your name to Canes and Aves fan. Cause you haven't done much except bag on the habs and the people who post here.
