He is a free-agent and if he gets medical clearance, would you sign him for a low base salary with incentives for performance? His speed, size, and skill may help him be very successful in the new NHL.

No they shouldn't take a big chance and what speed does he have lol. He's like 6'6 225, it's all about his hands and amazing shot no speed involved. He's way too injury prone, fragile, we can't afford to sign him and have him out of the lineup.
Now there is a player that had so much unrealized talent because of injuries. He sure had nice hands around the net. I always thought he was a classy guy and a team player. he just had major bad luck with injuries.
The only way I would sign Daze is if he agreed to league minimum...other than that I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

Brunet is one of my all-time favourite Habs. He had tons of talent, but was always injured. He scored one of the nicest goals I ever saw once, going through an entire team (I forget who the team was); it made all the highlight reels that year.
But I would never compare him with Daze, except for the injury connection. Daze is tall and lanky whereas Benoit was short and stout. I See Daze at his peak and healthy as being more of a Vincent LeCavalier type.
I'd take a chance on a one-year deal.

NO, if you give him incentives they count against the cap. IE Jason Allison was paid 1.5 million this year but counted 3.5 million against the Leafs cap despite not reaching the levels that would have seen him earn the extra 2 million.
That said i also say no because i think Daze is done. How many games has he played in the last 4 or 5 years??
No way they should sign him. He'll be a distraction because of his injuries, and when he's healthy enough to play he'll take ice time and PP time away from Higgins, Ryder etc.
The Benoit Brunet goal someone was talking about was against the LA Kings. Aki Berg was the Dman Benny danced around. Also in that game, Mr. Saku Koivu scored his very first NHL goal.
Mike Ribeiro had 257 games but only 151 points. thats an average of 0.5875 per game. So yes i'd take a chance on him for the right price.
= C.R.A.P. Remind me again about Mikey's offensive skills? All he is paid to do is get points. He can't do anything else.
As for Daze. No freakin way. Jason Allison is a prime example of why you don't fill up roster spots with "potential". Even if he does well for the first 20 games...he will likely not be around for the playoffs...and chewed up ice time for the young guys.
to answer your question on how many games he has played in the last 5 years, he played 235 games in the last 5 NHL season and had 182 points in that span. that's an average of 0.7745 point per game In comparison, Mike Ribeiro had 257 games but only 151 points. thats an average of 0.5875 per game. So yes i'd take a chance on him for the right price.
Sorry I should have said last four years not 5.
1 game this season, 0 in 04-05, 19 in 03-04, 54 in 02-03,
In 4 years he has not managed one complete season. Sure one year was a lockout, even without the lockout he would not have been healthy enough to play any games that year (based on still being hurt at the start of this season). So three years and 74 games, and each year getting less and less NO THANK YOU!!!!
Back Injuries, Knee Injuries and Concussions, the holy trinity of STAY AWAY. Any player with a significant recurring history of one of the three makes me leary. Daze's wonky back is a Big Red Flag.
