At just 18, i've got the girl who has said the 6 words i've wanted to hear my whole life!! " My Dad Owns A Liquor Store"
I remember it as if it was yesterday. I had just graduated from Engineering at Concordia University. The very same day as my convocation, on June 4th, I then had to dash off to CHOM-FM radio station where i picked up my itinerary. You see, I won a promotion they were running all season on the radio station; two tickets to an out of town Stanley Cup Final game. And that year, Montreal played LA. It was a dream for me because i went to the destination i most wanted to go. (And to think LA and Toronto went to 7 games in the semis).
So yeah I was at game 3, on June 5th, live in L.A. at the Great western Forum, where the Canadiens jumped to a 3-0 lead, only to see LA tie it. And then, the OT magic occured; John Leclair scores the Game winner. The Canadiens tookma 2-1 lead in the series, and never looked back, winning the series in 5 games.
Hmmm 13 years ago I was 16 (boy I hate the sound of that!!! LOL).... My wicked step father was a Leaf fan & refused to watch the Cup finals based on "principle"... so I got drunk at a friends & watched it there. (Did I say drunk... I mean..... ummm.... I drank on Kool-aid.... yeah that's it I never drank @ 16, not me Neither did Johab right???? )
That's one of my bestest High School memories.... those were the days boy, those were the days
I'll never forget that night as long as I live because I was lucky enough to be there and I have about 500 pictures I took to help me remember that night. I have them all in a litle scrapbook I made along with newspaper clippings from each game. I was also lucky enough to be at Game 2 of the finals.....the night of the infamous Marty McSorley illegal stick incident that ended up costing the Kings Game 2 and most likely the series. Someday soon I hope to be lucky enough to be at the Phone Booth watching another Stanley Cup Finals game. I know I still have the ticket stubs here somewhere so I'll have to dig them out, scan them and post them. Maybe they will bring us good luck next season.....
I was 11 years old and had watched every game up to that point at my friend's house up the street. We used to play street hockey till the moment their dad stepped outside and told us the game was on. Then we would go in grab a drink and watch the game together.
Sadly we moved away the day of the final game and the cable was not installed. However I was able to tune in the game with my rabbit ears on the CBC. I remember calling my friends and screaming into the phone whenever they scored and when the game was over. Was still a fun and memorable night.
That night I was at a friends house in Lasalle. I was 9 years old, and I remember how much we were screaming and yelling when the habs scored, and when they won. It was great. Oddly enough, that was the last time I saw that friend of mine, seeing as how I lived on the south shore, and he in lasalle, my mother wouldn't have had time to drive me around there. lol
I was 31. I was in my basement watching with my lucky Habs Bumber sticker on top of the TV. It was there the whole playoffs. My wife was in bed , so when I went nuts when they won, I woke her up. Then we drank a bottle of Champagne
