Newspaper out of Boston reporting that serious trade talk between Habs and TB over the past four days. Rumour is Habs are after Lecavalier. Keeping my fingers crossed.

GOD , I HOPE SO, but not the cost of trading our young guys!
I think the asking price would be more than we can stomach. Do we mortgage a good group of players and hope Vinny doesn't fold under the lights of Montreal. Maybe too much to risk. If anything they ask for Markov,Higgins,Ryder.a 1st....sorry but too much!!!!

Exactly thats too much or Exactly that would make the deal? Either way i think the point here is to improve the team. If we are going to trade for Lecav, send the stuff that we wont need with lecav here, not with what we'll have to replace. Ribs Zed and a 1st and 4th draft choice for lecav.

If Jay Fester made that deal, he would supplant Mike Milbury as the worst general manager of the past decade.
Apparently it might not be Lecavalier after all, but St. Louis instead. Gainey offered Theodore for him at the deadline, but no dice, but now Tampa wants Aebischer and if they don't trade St. Louis before July 1st, his no trade clause comes into effect for the next 5 years. Also, if Gainey is pursuing Arnott, then he wouldn't also pursue Lecavalier. Lecavalier also could have signed a one-year deal and bolted for Montreal, but he made a commitment to Tampa by signing long-term, so I just don't see Tampa trading him away.

Are we seeking a trade involving a non-Tampa player? It would be easier at this rate just to swap rosters! So far we've had Richards,Lecavalier,St.Louis,Fedotenko mentioned at various points!

If it was Ryder I would do the deal in a heartbeet if it ment a player like Vinny or St.louis to come to the Habs. Both are twice the player Ryder is, sure he's the teams highest goal scorer but its not like he's a dominate threat out there, plus the fact he's a defencive liabillity hence not getting the puck deep in the last game and coughing it up in which let Stillman eventually score the ugly game and series winner( yes still bitter about that one) .

Understatement of the week. They would have to be insane to even consider that core group for one player. Markov is more valuable to the team than having Lecavalier IMO. Plus, TB needs a goalie. Any deal would have to have an established goalie.
Could also be a one for one with Aebischer going for Fedotenko or Sydor or someone like that. Gainey and Carbo have history with Sydor so I wouldn't be surprised if they try to attain him.
Problem with replacing ryder with zednik is tampa wouldn't want zednik. ryder is a talent ... but he's no Vinny, so I think its a fair trade. Come to think of it ... abeisher + ryder + a 2nd round pick is probably enough ... no need to throw in Rivet.

That would be a great trade for us. I doubt it though, Tampa knows that Lecavalier has immense potential and they'll want someone like koivu/kovalev/huet/souray involved.

IF and its a big IF Tampa wants to move Vinny it would be to shed some of their salary, especially among the forwards, therefore they would not be interested in Koivu or Kovalev as that would defeat their purpose in looking to move him.
But thats all besides the point. Fact is Tampa would NEVER move Vinny to Montreal. Its a pipe dream. Even if they are looking to trade him, the destination would have to be a western conference team.
I never thought Boston would trade Joe Thorton. Never say never. It's obvious Gainey wants to but his stamp on the club and he's not afraid to make a move. I expect some big changes, and I would be surprised to see Ryder, Zednik, Riberio and Abby(I would sign and trade Huet) back in a Montreal uniform.
You cannot sign and trade HUET, he is a UFA. If you sign him, you keep him. It shows bad faith to every other player out there if you sign a UFA and trade him immediately. Hossa situation was different as he was a RFA, not a UFA.
If you sign and trade Huet, forget signing any other UFAs (unless you seriously overpay to get them to overlook it) for a long, long time after that.
You're right, it wouldn't look good, but this kind of stuff happens all the time in the NBA. What would happen if Dallas signed and traded Jason Arnott to Montreal. Dallas gets something and Montreal gets their man before another team can make an offer. It wouldn't be that bad, if everyone was involved, such as the player and his agent.
Personnally, I'm not a big fan of Huet, I still think he has to prove he's not a one year wonder, and in a cap world, you can't give a guy big money and have him flop. He's 30 years old and a career back-up, I would rather go with the proven and cheaper David Aebischer.
The reason it happens in the NBA is when a team really wants a guy but doesn't have the cap room to get him. They do the sign and trade so that the players they give up in return free up cap room for the free agent to be. Also in the NBA players can sign for more money if they resign as opposed to joining a new team (higher max ceiling on resigning guys).
Mtl wouldn't need to do that with Arnott as he does fit under our current cap.
well, not ONE word about ANYTHING with montreal and tampa bay from any REAL reliable sources, so you might as well forget about it, Vinny isnt coming here this summer.
