As for Gainey

Anyone out there a little worried he won't get the job done and add something significant again like last off season??

For myself, I don't rank him amongst one of the best GMs out there so any addition worthy of playing on the top two lines will be a big pleasant surprise. Also, I'll be very happy if he can add a little depth on defense.

I guess I meant a top three of four d-man....Streit and Downey are a waste of cap money.

My concern is Gainey is nickle and diming cap space with players that are not really improving team skill and speed to compete in this new NHL.

With Kovy the only elite free agent signing over his three years as GM, I'm not really expecting a big name player but hoping he at least can pick up someone with skill that can play important minutes. We have enough fourth line players along with 5th and 6th defensmen.

I'm not hoping for the un-attainable or superstar player just hoping he can do the job this off season with at least a couple players that can play.

Pronger and Niedermeyer were available last off season while Gainey was directing his energy on over paying Theo so I don't expect that kind of big name player.

Also, if he's going to waste money on these type of players than why not just give a couple farm prospects a chance while he's paying them anyway.

I hesitate to totally blame Gainey because all we have to do is look at what he did with the Dallas Stars while he was there. I agree he hasn't done alot since he came to Montreal but I have to wonder if maybe he is being held back just a bit from above in the front offices. Either way....NOW is the time to step up to the plate and make some deals that will make the team a contender in 06-07 and beyond.

 That's possible also.

I give Bob the Summer, but I get a feeling that he might be just a little overrated.

I'm not seeing where he's going with the team, he's alienated a few of the guys, and might blow landing a truly great player because we spent 200 grand too much on aother player

And as far as staff, I'm not convinced that a who's who of former Habs is the answer to our woes, they've tried that elsewhere, and it rarely works.

I'll give Carbo the benefit of the doubt, but I don't see him being the answer to anything either. I'd love to go out for a beer with him, but coaching? We'll see...

 Good post Brooky!

I'm going to give him till Sept until I'm more critical. For now I'm confussed with some of his signings, dumps and drafts over his tenure.

I've been rating him as average, so it would be unfair for me to bash him on average moves.
