LA PRESSE: Simon Drouin reports talks between the Montreal Canadiens and goalie Cristobal Huet's agent are progressing slowly but cordially. The Huet camp intends to make contract proposals next week but also indicated that all might depend on where things are by July 1st. It's believed Huet may seek a three year deal worth a total of between $8-$9 million. Meanwhile impending UFA blueliner Francis Bouillon doesn't want to wait until July 1st to test the market, wishing to re-sign with the Habs. Drouin reports agent Don Meehan met with Gainey's right hand man Julien Brisebois yesterday and could meet with him again today.
Spector's Note: Removing the moratorium on re-signing UFA players gives Gainey a couple of more weeks to negotiate but it does seem he's going to have to pay between $2.5 million -$3 million per to retain Huet. Most Habs fans would probably do that deal in a heartbeat. As for Bouillon, don't be surprised if his new contract with the Canadiens is announced within the next couple of weeks. He loves playing in Montreal and will probably get a decent raise over the $600K he earned last season (ballpark it around $1 million).
