Try walking down the main drag of Cavendish, PEI in January.........

We have a dedicated bunch here.  Usually Johab keeps it going.  Now we have you, MC Girl and a few other keeners, along with the old regulars, so I think we'll be fine.

Hey Brooky- did I tell ya my wife to be plays soccer..or "football" as they like to call it in England. I went to see her play for the first time the other night in Halifax. She is a striker and aside from a hit crossbar did not have much luck. Alot like the snipers on the habs. I will tell you one thing..women or not..that is one ROUGH SPORT!

I'm always stymied when people think it's a "soft" sport. The conditioning needed, and the bruises and sprains you get are a hell of a lot harder to take than most sports....

And you don't get any real chance to rest but a t halftime...

Now if only my girl can get a spot on the US team.. (sentimentality would have me want her on Canada or England, but the US women are like the Canadian women's hockkey team)

Hey Nil, I read your post very fast and I thought it said old weiners.  Had a good chuckle but realised it's probably means the same thing anyway.

Well Brooklyn, in a mere ten days England will be kicking off against Paraguay. They(Paraguay) were in Oslo last week playing Norway, and it was kind of interesting. The Paraguayan defence looked very weak in the air, both of our goals came from set pieces. With that scouse so and so up front and Terry and Rio pushing up on corners and free kicks, well, it's looking good for England. I see England muddling through to the quarter finals, then Rooney coming back and taking them to the final... A win over Sweden would go down nicely as well...

Congrats Johab....

Don't tell Ripple he's a McDonald's freak! I've got him down to 2-4 double cheeseburgers a week LOL... & that's a HUGE improvement.

The movie "Super size me" didn't faze him one bit! LOL

I'm already set for a day of enjoyment starting at 9 here at the local Brit hangout (which we've welcomed out Trinidadian friends to share)

Between the Finals, World Cup, Wimbledon (Women's of course, *cough* *Cough*), and the Tour de France (another of my fave breakfast-time sports, I'm set for a good 8 weeks of Sports heaven...

Now if I could just understand what all that falling down they're doing in American Football means, I'd be set up just right...

Congrats Johab - summer of 1973 I was hired as a bouncer at our local McDs - no joke - told the boss if I was to do this job - I could not - repeat could not - wear a paper hat! 17 years old and I got to wear short sleeve shirt and tie - just like the manager.

Good luck - everything teaches you something, there's no wasted jobs.

Soccer definitely is a rough sport, I played for ten years and have been knocked out amongst other things, but women's soccer has to be one of the dirtiest sports I have seen! One of my friends plays professionally (Norway currently) and she has had numerous injuries.
As for posting, after all the police work during the play-offs, I need a break and I am back to my 3-5 posts a week and light to moderate reading thanks to a hectic schedule at the school for the last while. Korea's Festivals are a site to see!

I've never seen a thread that had two completely different, unrelated, topics (lack of posts and soccer) running in parallel.

Well done, Barry!

Just copy and paste the signature... there will be more pics next week, as well. Students had two weeks to prep and they put on over 10hrs of show in just over 2 days... besides all the food and sports and art. They are not called Robots by other cultures for nothing!

Just watched Norway and S. Korea draw 0-0 here in Oslo. Not too impressive, but Park wasn't playing. What club does your friend play for? That reminds me, Patrick Thoresen, one of our best young players just signed a two year contract with the Oilers organisation...so you never know, if there is a god there might be a Norwegian on the defending Stanley cup champions next year... Wouldn't that be a blast?

Personal experience.  Playing soccer in my youth I was usually the goalkeeper because I was a slow runner, but had good lateral instincts.

Anyway, one day, I get the soccer ball off my face.  Nose bleed.  I never nose bleed!

It could have been worse.  Another time I made a sprawling save,.... with my you know what.  I couldn't walk straight the rest of the day.

Ah yes, the so-called "lower body" or "groin" injury.  You know how Sheldon Souray felt that time he caught one there....... Ouch!
